Black Friday Rule
"It spread like a wild fire sparking even the youngest. Catching them in a pool pulling them downward. Drowning without a fight."
In the early 1960's something like a black cloud wrapped itself tightly around the wizarding world. The death of muggles and wizards alike caused by the dark lord and his followers rained down like a cold winter storm across the world. Lord Voldermort and his followers were seen more frequently throughout the later 60's early 70's and finally reached their peak of deadly rule in the later 70's and early 80's. On October 31st 1983 Harry Potter brought Voldermort down and much to everyone's astonishment, brought harmony back into the wizarding world. Throughout this time of anguish and fear there was one such place where students could be held safely, away from the destruction. This place was Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The rain beat harshly against the thick glass of the castle windows in early April. Up high in the Gryffendor common room, roared a fire that warmed the entire room and melted many a frozen toe. Laying on the floor in front of the fire, was a young girl, not older than sixteen doodling on a piece of parchment and listening intently to an enchanted record player. Van Morrison's Moondance drifted slowly up and doused the common room in it's jazzy beats and soft bass notes. It was quite a cozy scene until a large crash echoed from somewhere up in the boys dormitory.
"Sorry!" shouted a boy's voice from somewhere unknown. "We're having a bit of trouble, go back to whatever it was you were doing! Oh and Lily turn that song up!"
Lily obeyed her friend, and turned the music up loud, "Jackie Wilson said" was playing so loudly in fact, everyone who'd not been in the common room was now scrambling to see what the commotion was about. Lily was doodling again, kicking her feet to the beat of the song and smiling. Seeing that it was nothing they all walked back up to their dorms. In a few minutes, a boy of the same age as Lily fumbled down the stairs and looked around for his best friend.
"Lily!" he shouted and she looked up happily. The boy's hands were outstretched and she knew that meant he wanted to dance to the song playing happily next to her. She hopped up and joined hands with him and they started to dance around the common room haphazardly, occasionally hitting furniture and laughing hysterically.
This is what made Lily Evans smile and laugh. To dance around foolishly with her best friend on cool Saturday afternoons while a rainstorm crashed outside and thunder rolled and lighting clapped.
Not much in the world was happy in these days of discomfort, but as soon as Van Morrison's raspy voice floated into her ears and the special grin danced across his face and her heart leapt up. All the worried that tied up her stomach dissolved and it was like heaven on earth.
