She walked down the aisle. Just for a second, she let her imagination wander, and she saw Him standing at the front of the room. But all too soon, reality hit her.
Dread washed over her when she thought about the mam she was marrying. Teddy Conrad. Dependable. Safe. Even lovable. But not Him.
She thought of the baby inside her. She could do this for it. This baby would have a good childhood, in a stable family.
Before she knew it, she was standing in front of Teddy. He smiled at her, and she couldn't help but smile back. He said 'I do' and looked into her eyes. She fought off tears. After seconds that felt like hours, it was her turn. The almost truthful words formed on her lips. 'I do.' They kissed, and sparks flew, but no flames burned, like when He kissed her.
And all through their first dance as a married couple, instead of the lyricless music coming through the speakers, she heard a melody that was more than just a song. It represented a whole part of her life. The part she was giving up.
I know why you're lonely...
She wasn't quite lonely. Just lonely for Him.
... It's time you knew it too...
She did know. She just wouldn't let anyone see that.
... No one will ever love you like I do...
No, she supposed no one would.
