AN: This came to me randomly at work – I didn't know where I was going with it, but wanted to do a quick oneshot. I hope you enjoy it and hopefully I didn't butcher the characters too horribly lol
Please, please review and let me know what you think. Thanks.
Rain
The rain poured down in sheets making the city sparkle in the evening lights. The full moon was little competition for the bright lights of New York City. Even away from Times Square, in a residential area of Manhattan, the sky was tinged with light pollution.
From a non-descript apartment in Manhattan, a woman sat in a chair looking out into the rain. Her legs were folded up with the rest of her body on the over-stuffed chair. Her left arm rested on the armrest while her right arm rested across her hip and bent legs. She wore a blue tank top that had NYPD written across the bust and a grey pair of pajama pants.
The August evening air was stifling, but her apartment's air conditioning made her contemplate getting the throw off the couch to wrap around her shoulders. The rain was hypnotizing and she was compelled to stay put, gazing out into the night.
Thoughts raced through her head and she tried to make sense of everything that had transpired in the last few hours. Ounces of doubt crept into her mind, but she continuously thought up things to force them away. Thinking of the job made her question what was happening, fearful things will change too much too quickly. Then the excitement took over and fear didn't have any room.
Olivia Benson was as tough as they come, but her world was about to change dramatically. Never before had she felt so intensely about something, not even her job, and that scared her. She never thought she'd be so scared of something she was so sure of at the exact same time.
She thought back to the events of that evening, a small smile appearing on her lips. It was the pure spontaneity of the night that first got her heart pounding. Her small kitchen was turned into the most romantic place on earth, complete with candles and a beautifully prepared dinner. She remembered the things that were said and the emotions that soared.
Returning to the sound of the rain, she smiled again and brought her hands together. Her thumb and index finger of her right hand delicately touched the diamond ring on her left ring finger.
"Liv?" She turned her head to the figure in her bedroom doorway and smiled. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, everything's fine. Just needed a moment." Elliot Stabler walked across the room, the moon light playing on his face.
"Why don't you come back to bed," Elliot suggested, reaching down to take Olivia's left hand in his right one. He brought it to his lips and kissed it, her ring sparkling modestly.
Olivia stretched her legs out and stood from the chair and wrapped her arms around Elliot's strong body. "That sounds perfect," she agreed.
They walked hand-in-hand back to her bedroom and they both climbed in. Bringing the comforter up to their waists, Elliot opened his arms to Olivia. She accepted his offer and laid down using his bare chest as a pillow, snuggling deep in his arms. She let out a content sigh and shut her eyes.
"I love you," Elliot said as he began to drift off again.
Clinging to the last moments of consciousness before sleep overtook her, Olivia replied. "I love you, too. Completely." Sleep settled over the queen-sized bed as the rain subsided and left the sun to rise over a shimmering city.
