Things Best Left Unsaid: An Ozai Drabble
Just a thought that occurred to me while watching Sozin's Comet. (Very mild spoiler alert) While watching, I was intensely relieved when Ozai DIDN'T get to say a particular line… Please tell me I'm not the only one!
Disclaimer: I don't own Avatar. Why would you think I did?
The whole of the sky burned red, a prelude to the fire that would soon engulf the Earth Nation and put an end to its rebelliousness. Fifteen warships rose into the air, a black arrow aiming at the heart of the Fire Nation's enemies. In the lead was a sixteenth ship, the deadliest of them all, for it bore Ozai himself.
The fierce commander stood confidently on the walkway extending at the point of the ship, unmoved in his determination even by the winds that whipped around him. This was his moment of glory; Sozin had wiped out the Air Nomads and begun the conquest of the world, and now Ozai stood ready to eradicate the remains of the old order with a cleansing fire. Afterward, a new world would be created, and he would rule over it all.
That was why he decided that he would no longer be known as Fire Lord Ozai. He was no longer the ruler of the Fire Nation, but the ruler of the new world, born from the ashes of the old, risen anew like a phoenix. He held out his arms into the wind, stretching them to his sides to encompass the width of the horizon, the entirety of his new realm. Fire Lord was too small a title.
A surge of triumph for his inevitable victory swept through him.
"I am... PHOENIX KING OF THE WORLD!"
Then the ship sank.
