This was written for the the Prompt of the Day at Hogwarts_Online: 'out of the blue'. Enjoy! :)
I love you.
Those three little words, those three words which came out of the blue, that changed everything.
We were at Harry and Ginny's engagement party, which was full of friends and family. It had been too strong a reminder of who should have been here, cracking jokes at Harry's expense, and the gaping hole that he had left. I ran away; it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. Anyway, I was used to running away from family gatherings. They caused too much pain.
She followed me, as usual. I didn't mind though, this time. It would feel odd not to have her there, holding my hand and murmuring words of comfort. We were in the orchard, where we used to play Quidditch in the holidays. I always came here , when it became too much; the gnarled old apple trees seemed to hold a source of comfort for me.
'George, were you listening to me?'
Her soft voice brought me out of my reverie.
'No. What did you say?'
'I – I love you.'
Her chocolate brown eyes locked on mine, and they seemed to be searching for something.
What did she just say? She just had to go and ruin the routine, didn't she? She was the one thing that was stable, and now even that's taken away.
'Oh God,' she mumbled, 'just forget I said anything, OK? Forget it.' She was backing away from me now.
'Ange... wait...'
She started running, and once she reached the gate, she disapparated.
Where the hell has she gone?
The answer came to me immediately; she had told me once about how comforting she found the sea, she had taken me to a beach in Cornwall to show me the ocean. I Apparated there without thinking, and I saw her straight away.
She was kneeling on the shore, toying with pebbles, and I was alarmed to see there were tears in her eyes.
'Ange... are you OK?'
What a stupid question. Of course she isn't. You've broken her heart, and you didn't even mean to.
'Y-Yeah.' She looked up at me, and a single teardrop trickled down her cheek. I watched it splash onto a pure white pebble, and suddenly, I put my arm around her and pulled her closer.
The words came out of my mouth before I thought about what they would mean.
'I love you too.'
'You – you what?'
I looked at her perfect features, screwed up in confusion, and I knew that what I had just said was the complete and honest truth.
'I said I love you.'
'Really and truly?'
I placed my hands on her cheeks and brought her face close to mine.
'Really and truly.' I whispered, before I placed a gentle kiss on her lips.
Please R they make my day!
