A/N: This is based on a prompt I found on the glee angst meme, which (paraphrased because I can't refind the prompt) asked for Finn overhearing Kurt saying positive affirmations about himself to get through the school day. The timing for this fic is a bit iffy, as I don't remember when the Hudsons moved in/ back in with the Hummels, so let's just say the first half of season two. Also, while Finn isn't my favorite character, I tried to keep away from character bashing, so let me know if I was unsuccessful.
At first, Finn just thinks it's weird. He wakes up earlier than usual, because Kurt's going through his morning skincare ritual, and apparently part of the ritual involves talking to himself in the mirror. At first Finn wonders if Kurt's gone crazy, but figures whatever, everyone has a few weird habits. Reassured by that thought, he rolls over and falls back asleep, before he can make out what Kurt is saying.
Later, Finn finds it vaguely annoying. He's woken up most mornings by Kurt talking to himself, and discovers that Kurt is saying things like "I am loved, I am strong," and other short positive statements. He remembers Rachel saying stuff like that to herself before competition performances, but he's pretty sure that not even Rachel repeats it every morning.
Then, Finn finds it outright irritating. He's not a huge fan of Kurt at the moment anyway; Rachel's still giving him grief for not helping the other guys intimidate Karofsky (he doesn't think she'd actually like a black eye on him, but knows better than to say that to her). And then Kurt starts spending even more time talking to himself in the morning, when Finn really just wants to sleep. So he feels justified in groaning a little as he pulls a pillow over his head to block out Kurt's voice. He doesn't notice Kurt falter a little in his recitation when he does.
But a few overheard minutes at school change his mind. Hr gets confused and bored halfway through algebra (he could've sworn that square roots had something to do with rainbows), and figures that walking to the bathroom might wake him up a little bit. He goes to the ones off of the cafeteria (they're not the closest ones to the classroom, but hey, he's not in any hurry to return to class), and when he opens the door, he hears Kurt's voice. He shuffles into the restroom until he can see Kurt, who's leaning over a sink with his hair wet, like he just washed a slushie out of it. Finn lurks in the doorway, and listens to what Kurt's saying.
"I am better than them. They are wrong, not me. I have courage. One day, I will leave Lima." He pauses, then starts up again, sounding shakier than before. "I don't deserve his abuse. I won't let him break me. I am stronger than he is."
Finn exits quietly before Kurt notices him, and tries to understand how Kurt, who's often confident to the point of being obnoxious, has to convince himself halfway through the school day that he doesn't deserve to be bullied.
So the nest day when he wakes up to Kurt again, he waits for him to finish, than tells him "you're right."
