Edith lay in bed tears falling down her face.

The last thing she imagined was that she would spend her wedding night alone while she was pregnant with a child that was not her husbands.

Guilt consumed her though out the wedding ceremony but she could not face the prospect of giving her child up.

She still loved Anthony even after the jilting, but she knew he only married her because he blamed himself for what had happened.

She prayed that the child inside her was a girl and that she could convince Anthony to try for a son.

But what ever happened she swore to herself that she would be the best wife possible to him.

She would make sure the house was run to his benefit and she would stay out of his way.

She would take meals in her room until the child was born then she would spend her day's in the nursery having decided that it was unfair of Anthony to bear the expense of employing a nanny, for this reason she also declined to have a ladies maid.

She put her hand over her stomach pretending as she drifted off to sleep that the baby was Anthony's and dreamt of the life she once thought they would have together.
