I Know Your Secret!
"Hey Jack, guess what happened at school today?" Alex called as he closed the front door to his house.
Jack, who was cleaning the grandfather clock in the hallway, called back, "Let me guess. An armed murderer who also happened to be your clone entered the school and tried to destroy the school, starting with the shattered remains of the Science wing." Her voice was filled with amusement.
Alex grinned. "Well, actually..."
EARLIER THAT DAY
"HEY! ALEX!"
Alex turned at the yell. He had been talking with Tom when the shout came. He wasn't sure what to expect, but it was definitely not Brianna Patterson charging him at full speed before tackling him with a completely random hug.
"Oof!" he muttered, completely taken off guard. Brianna was bawling her eyes out, and he was utterly bemused.
"Alex! I just figured it out!" the girl wailed. "I was visiting my cousin the other day, and then I saw you just now and I realized it!"
"Er, realized what?" Alex asked, now on his feet and eyeing the girl warily, wondering what mental illness had taken her mind
"You should know very well what I realized, Alex! Only the cause of your disappearances !"
Alex tensed. How on earth did Brianna discover his two 'missions' with MI6? Then again, she might have discovered something else.
But Brianna was talking again. "I realized your two absences happened exactly a month apart, and you shaved your hair. It all clicks! I don't know why you felt the need to hide your cancer, Alex, but..."
"Stop!" The command came out much louder than Alex liked. Now everyone was looking at them. "I do not have cancer, Brianna. Thank you for your concern, and I'm sorry about your cousin. But my sickness is really just that, a sickness. Nothing really life-threatening, and the hair will grow back in a few weeks. Goodbye." Alex walked away from the now red-faced girl as fast as he could, and ran to catch up with Tom.
Jack was on the floor laughing at this point, while Alex chuckled as well.
Suddenly, the American girl sat up, looking completely serious.
"The saddest thing about that story is that the girl's idea is even more believable than MI6's!"
