A/N: This is a story that I had originally written out for a notebook that my friend and I passed back and forth. I fixed it up for this version, but it's still pretty close to the original. I apologize right now for all the OOCness, but it's meant to be that way.
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto or anything to do with it.

Five-year-old Kakashi stretched, waking up from a long night of slumber. Sighing, he made his way over to the full length mirror he kept in his room. Staring into it, he examined his marvelous features. He smirked, enjoying the movement of his face as his mouth curled in a perfect smile. His face was perfectly gorgeous.
Kakashi got dressed, ready for the academy. As he headed out of his house, he grabbed a pair of sneakers and put them on, lacing them tightly. He smirked again and headed out.
On the way to the academy, several people stared in awe at his wonderful features, gawking at the small child that was so beautiful. Kakashi paid them no attention. He was used to this kind of thing.
As Kakashi walked into the classroom, he heard a snicker from somewhere to his left. "Hey, pretty boy. You get mistaken for a girl again?" Kakashi gave Gai a look cold enough to freeze flames. "Shut up, Might Gai."
"Class!" The sensei walked in the door, making Kakashi scramble to his seat. "Today we will be training in speed and agility. I'm sure you'll do well." He glanced at Kakashi warmly.
The class filed out of the room and lined up at the top of a massive flight of stairs. "Alright," their sensei explained. "You are to run up and down these stairs three times in fifteen seconds. Got it?" The class nodded. "Good. This has only been accomplished by the best of the-"
But as the sensei rambled, someone wasn't paying attention. Might Gai was hiding on the ground. His hands worked furiously as he untied Kakashi's sneakers. "Stupid kid," he muttered to himself.
"Ready? Set? GO!" The class took off and Gai sped in front. Kakashi gritted his teeth and caught up with his rival. "I'll beat you for sure."
"In your dreams." Gai stuck out his tongue as they touched the bottom and began working their way back up.
Kakashi snarled and started moving faster. Suddenly, a feeling of weightlessness came over him, and he found the world turning until he as heading straight into the stairs.
-------
"Kakashi! Are you alright?"
Kakashi opened his eyes to see a blinding light above him. "Wah?" He turned to the speaker to see the sensei standing next to him. "Wazzat?" Kakashi looked around his own apartment.
"You fell, Kakashi, tripped over your own shoelace. It was pretty bad."
"Oh. OH!" Kakashi's mind went back to when he felt a peculiar sensation near his shoes. "I bet it was Gai!" he declared. Standing, he tried to shove his way past his sensei when he saw something out of the corner of his eye.
"Oh no."
Turning, he faced the mirror that he had marveled at earlier that day. What he saw made him want to scream. His beautiful features had been covered up. He wore, from the nose down, a mask. His eyes wide, Kakashi flung himself at the mirror and tore off the mask.
"No!" As soon as it was off, he wished it was back. His face was covered in bruises, welts, and scars. "He'll pay for this," Kakashi declared, putting the mask back on. "Might Gai is going to pay."
Running towards the door, Kakashi hesitated when he didn't see his sneakers. "Sensei!" he yelled. "Where are my shoes?"
Sensei yelled back at him. "We decided it was better this way." Kakashi looked down. All of his shoes had been replaced by blue sandals. "Ew." Kakashi shook his head, putting one on. They were quite comfortable. "Maybe it'll catch on."
