Disclaimer: I'm only going to say this once: As much as I'd like to, I do not own Harry Potter nor am I affiliated with it.

Marnie began the school year racing through a barrier in a train station with a trunk in one hand and a cage with a barn owl in the other. She was already late in the sense she had about five minutes before the train left the station. Wheezing slightly from lack of air, she squeezed onto a crowded platform and began to force her way to the waiting red engine.

After much difficulty, Marnie found a seat in an empty compartment. She stuffed her belongings onto the overhead rack and sat down, anxious for the train to start. When it did, she looked back one last time at the platform filled with loving family members waving goodbye to their sons, daughters, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. She sat back with longing, knowing her parents weren't there. In fact, they were currently somewhere in the country of India researching a rare flower.

She pushed a ginger wisp of hair out of her face and pulled out a book from the carryon bag attached to her trunk and began to read. Not long after starting the second chapter, a boy with an Irish brogue pushed open the door and sat down across from her. "Very sorry to interrupt, but may I sit here? There's no more room on the train!" Marnie jerked her head up quickly and smiled. "Sure you may. My name's Marnie. What's yours?" He smiled back and introduced himself as Nolan.

A/N Please review… that's really the only thing I have to say.
