Disclaimer: I do not own NCIS...but you don't either so ha!

HAPPY 2011 everyone! I love you all! (seriously, if you're reading this, I don't have to know you face-to-face to love you; fact of life)

A/N: I was watching 'Kill Ari' and I realized that without Tony in the lab, Abby probably would've died. Here's what I believe Gibbs might have been thinking on the matter.

Abby's scream near just stopped Gibbs' heart. He was suddenly back on that damned rooftop, Kate on the ground, a pool of blood spreading beneath her head like a demented halo. DiNozzo's still too pale face speckled with her blood and brain matter.

His stomach twisted at the thought and his coffee cup slipped from his uncaring grasp as he took off at a sprint to the door, waiting impatiently for the retina scanner to identify him and then flying through the corridors and stairways to Abby's lab.

"Abby!" he yelled out, voice filled with worry.

"Boss down!"

Never in his entire life had he been so relieved to hear Tony's voice. Abby was under the window, out of sight, Tony crouched beside her, gun out, all business.

Relief mingled with panic as he took in the dark lab that was still somehow all too bright. He sped through the room, switching off any machines that even blinked.

As he pulled Abby to him, reassuring both of them that she was alright, his eyes found Tony's and they exchanged a quick but meaningful glance. His words spoken through the whole haze of the nightmare they were in relaying his instructions.

And then the idiot nearly got killed.

"Hey!" he grabbed Tony's leg and yanked him down, "What if he has a night vision scope?"

Tony went even paler –if that was at all possible- as he realized his near mistake.

"That's a good point boss." Tony crept out of the lab, staying low and moving swiftly.

Knowing that DiNozzo wasn't about to be shot and Abby was safe, Gibb's felt his heart rate return to somewhat safer areas of the spectrum.

Abby was safe. Tony was safe. His kids were safe.

But Abby was only safe because of Tony. Tim and Kate –his heart clenched- had lived a little longer because DiNozzo was reckless and made them run from a car bomb. Tony was still recovering from the Plague –that would forever haunt him- and he had come back to work early –he deserved another head slap for that- but because he'd come back, three out of his four kids were still alive; and he couldn't have exactly done anything to save Kate, so that didn't count.

Abby was alive, in his arms, warm and alive, because of Tony. Gibbs prayed DiNozzo's luck would continue to hold out until Ari was dead and lying on Ducky's table. For good this time.

Abby would have been just like Kate. Flat on her back on the floor of her beloved lab, blood sprayed across the machines that would later help identify by the use of someone else, that her killer and Kate's killer were one in the same.

Bert would probably have found his place on Tony's desk, the agent in question staring in intervals at the hippo and then at Kate's empty desk.

And then a bullet probably would've found its way into the bullpen and his Senior Agent's head.

That was that, he was getting bullet resistant glass for Abby's lab and the bullpen.

Gibbs wasn't losing all of them, and that bastard would die if he had anything to say about it.

And maybe some of DiNozzo's luck would rub off on them until this whole nightmare was over.

A/N: I hope you guys enjoyed this, I've had in the back of my mind since last year –wow, is it seriously 2011?- so, here's my first fic of the new year.
