AN: This is a short one shot that just would not leave me alone. Anyway I hope you like it.
Boy to Man to Bullish Wolf.
It is Paris during the revolutionary years. For there is no great revolution; it was a thing that took time. There were many stops and starts along the way. However, I will be following the tale of two men, just like these years, their tale stops and starts as well.
One an inspector of the police in Paris, yet he began as a guard. The other a tree pruner from the provinces, who fell on hard times, whose only crime was the theft of a loaf of bread. A loaf of bread his sister and her children never recieved, with her husband dead leaving the family with only the one miniscule income. Our tree pruner turned convict was called Jean Valjean, although to our dear gaurd he was convict 24601. There were only two things that made this small time rouge stand out, one being his likeing to escape - which boosted his time inside from 5 to 19 years - and the other was his strength. This strength was physical but would become spiritual; it almost impressed all other guards except one. One, who would hunt him throughout France, even if their meetings were purely accidental.
This legendary hunter was Javert. The only inspector who was clearly not of pure French origins. His skin obviously hailed from some gypsy bloodline; however his attitude was completely his own.
Javert's instinct to hate anything crime related in all liklihood stemmed from his father being a galley slave and his mother a fortune teller - which at this point is illegal. Likewise it is illegal for one branded as a convict to become an officer of the law. Fortunately, Javert was so paranoid that no one had seen his back bare; meaning they had never seen the brand of Toulon burned into his skin forever although distorted as he had grown from boy to man to bullish wolf.
