Aloneā¦
That was the only way to describe how Al felt. Sure, he had Winry, but he felt like he just wasn't living without Ed. Most people thought that Ed was gone, as gone as you can be, dead. Al just couldn't grasp that though. Ed wouldn't let himself die. Not while Al was still alive.
"Winry!" Al called. "I'm going to take a nap."
"Good, you haven't slept much since, you know. Make sure you take better care of yourself."
I miss when Brother and I slept together. Even when we were kids fighting over who'd get the top bunk. He's like a security blanket to me. Al started to cry. Before long, he was asleep.
Al found himself in a dank alleyway between large stone apartment buildings. Normally he'd be a little uneasy, but he felt like he was dreaming. Al heard footsteps coming down the alley towards him. Since it was dark out, Al had to wait until the little figure came closer. It took Al two seconds to know who it was.
"Brother!" Al yelled. Ed looked up in surprise and let go of the box he was carrying.
"Al?" he asked, still confused. "Is that really you?"
"Yeah, but, isn't this a dream?"
Ed looked even more confused. "No! It's not, I'm me!"
"I knew you were still around somewhere." Al's face fell. "But, will I see you again after this?"
"I don't know, but hey, an alley doesn't fit this situation. There's a river not too far away, it's a lot nicer looking than an alley." Ed started to walk off but Al couldn't move. Ed sighed, took Al's hand, and dragged him along.
"Wow, I guess this place isn't that bad," Al said when they reached the river.
"It's like a hell to me," Ed replied dejectedly.
Al kissed Ed on the cheek. "It's a lot better than fire and brimstone though, right?"
Ed blushed. "Not funny, Al," he said. There was an awkward silence, until Ed turned Al towards him and kissed him on the lips. Al was distracted by a sound coming from the box that Ed had.
"What's in there?" he asked. Ed opened the box and a kitten jumped out. Al gasped in surprise then started stroking the kitten.
"A kitten? Thank you!" Al exclaimed.
"I didn't expect to see you y'know. The kitten was for me." Ed blushed again. "But you can have him." There was a silence again when Al started to feel faint.
"Ed, I think I'm going to have to leave you soon."
"Al! You can't go yet," Ed yelled. But Al could already feel himself waking up. The first thing he heard was Winry. He got up to see what she was squealing at. On the Rockbell's doorstep was a kitten.
