Waiting

Soi stood by the trellis waiting
for the arrival of Nakago, ever ready to serve him whenever he wished. The wind
felt soft against her soft skin that was bare in her long white polo – a garment
she borrowed from Nakago's closet.
She was
enamored in her thoughts when Nakago crept up behind her and wrapped his arms
around her waist.
"Been
waiting long?"
"Nakago-sama!
How was your day?" She leaned her head on the ridge between Nakago's shoulder
and neck, enjoying his scent – sweat and naturally sweet.
"The camp
of Kanga has been taken…" "As if there ever was a doubt." "Yes, and I want you
to always be prepared. I shall be sending you on a mission soon."
"Whatever
you ask, Nakago-sama." Soi turned to face him. "Whatever you want."
Then came
a loud rap on the door.
Yui's
voice came clear through the door cracks. "Nakago! I need to talk to you about
something."
Soi and
Nakago looked into each other's eyes in silent conversation. As if reaching a
decision, Soi turned away and walked back to her original position by the
trellis, trying to control her emotions. I am a soldier, I must be strong.
Nakago
was two steps away from the door when he looked back and saw Soi hunched over
with hair spilling at the front. Is there something wrong with her? He
ran to put his arms around Soi as he did minutes before.
This
time, Soi stood straight, resisting the urge to succumb to his embrace. "Why?
Why did you give her the pearl? I know you don't want it to be me… but why her?"
Finally, her heart won over all control and tears dropped onto Nakago's arms on
her waist.
The
pearl? Why would she want it? Nakago brushed her hair off to
one shoulder and whispered in her ear. "I can't, Soi. I can't tell you why but
it doesn't mean…"
"Nakago!
Are you in there?" Yui banged her hands on the door.
Nakago
kissed Soi's neck as a bid farewell.
I'll be
waiting.
