I'm in Alpha school. I'm learning how to hunt. It's a bitterly cold winter day, but I have to hunt anyway. That's when I see her. A female gray wolf, dashing towards the caribou I was after. She grabs it by the neck and it falls down to the ground.

"Hey! That was mine!" I tell her, coming over to the caribou's dead body.

She rolls her blue and yellow eyes. "Oh, quit yelping like someone's pet dog. I killed it, it's mine. Law of the wild, pup." She tells me. "I have a pack to feed, anyways. What do you need it for?" She asks me.

"I'm in Alpha school. This is my hunting test." I respond.

She smiles warmly. "I guess I can't feel too guilty, then. That would be cheating, considering I killed it." She tells me. She looks at the caribou. That smile returns to her face. "Hey, pup, can you do me a favor?" She asks.

"That depends." I answer.

"A fiesty one. I like that. Can you help me get rid of this thing? Just help me carry it to the lake over there?" She asks hopefully.

"All right. I need to catch a big one when the next herd comes by, though." I agree gingerly.

"Thanks, pup." She smiles.

"I have a name, you know." I tell her. I can't take her calling me pup. I'm a young Alpha!

"What's your name?" She asks.

"Garth." I answer.

"Okay, Garth. Just to be fair, my name's Aleu." She smiles.

We carry the caribou to the lake that separates Jasper and some part of Alaska. We drop the caribou there, and Aleu gets a drink of water. She pulls off a scrap from the caribou with her teeth. She drops it at my paws.

"Just to tide you over. It'll give you some extra strength for the hunting test." She tells me. I devour it. It scratches my throat a little, so I lap up some water from the lake as well.

"Well, Garth, I've gotta go. Niju's gonna slit my throat if I don't bring him his food soon." She says, then takes off.

I catch and kill a big caribou right after she leaves.
