Storyh Title: Kagome's Decision

Author: Raquel Simone

Disclaimer: I do not own InuYasha. I never have, and I never will.

Kagome was watching him again from across the campfire. InuYasha was as oblivious as always, scratching behind his ear with his foot showing his more dog-like qualities.

She was starting to get tired of waiting for him. Nineteen years old was too old to have only kissed once. She knew he wasn't mature or anything, and that the idea of romance for this period in time wasn't very explicit. But honestly, girls were being married off at sixteen here! She was old to still be single in the feudal ages. If he had any serious intentions of being with her, he would have started courting her by now. At least that's what she thought.

Her body was starting to ache to be held. Not even in a sexual way. Just a need to be touched, to be shown she was cared for. She had been holding off others advances, pushing away those who would care for her, just to wait for a half-demon who she couldn't even call her boyfriend! It was frustrating.

She wanted to be taken out on a date. Kissed under the stars. Whispered to under the moonlight. Cared about. Even a little bit of caring would make this wait worth it. But he wasn't forthcoming enough with that.

She was not a patient person by nature. Her fiery temper and sudden emotionalness demanded that she have instant results to her feelings. By waiting for him she was denying her very nature.

That was it.

Denying herself for someone else was just not allowed. She could not take it anymore. Not for one more second.

"I give up." Kagome whispered to herself, eyes downcast towards the fire.

InuYasha looked up then, but it was too late, and he didn't understand the meaning of her words. He shrugged and let it go.

If he had said something then, maybe she would have waited just a little bit longer, but his shrug, his indifference to her internal musings just served to instill her verdict.

That was the night she let go of InuYasha.

~*~*~*~*~*~

InuYasha knew something was up. He didn't like the way Kagome was staring at him and muttering to herself over the campfire. It just wasn't normal.

The few words he could actually understand, "I give up." were easily ignored. He didn't want her to think he was listening in or anything.

With a shrug of his shoulders he went back to the persistent itch behind his ear. Damn that was annoying.

(a.n. This is just a short first chapter. I have yet to figure out a distinct plot, and any suggestions would be very welcome. I do not plan on making this a simple, "Two people meet, fall madly in love, and damn the consequences"-type thing. Real relationships are more complicated than that. I'll start writing the next chapter as soon as I either get inspiration, or I get a review. Thanks for taking the time to read chapter one.)
