Solace of Night
By Eponine 16732

I am now alone, no - one shall witness this sight,
This man confuses me, I seek the solace of night,
I am confused. . .My heart of stone is gone,
I will never stoop down and heed Valjean!

I watch this silent pool,
Random voices call out, "Run away, you fool!"
I watch this quaking, swirling river,
As I look into it, the whirlpools quiver.

This solace of night shall not be known,
I will keep this solace as my own.
Nobody can stand in my way,
I shall be freed today!

I am confused. . .My heart of stone is gone,
I will never stoop down and heed Valjean!
Nobody can stop me now,
This inspector gives his respectful, yet final bow.

Murky, quiet depths of Seine,
Take me now and end my pain,
I spit at the face of that man,
If no - one shall do it, then they know I can.

Where in this river shall my life end?
Solace of night, do not start to bend,
Do not sway, do not go astray,
Claim me now, claim me today!

How dare he mock the law?
He shall feel the pain of Damnation's Saw!
But not before I go first,
For his pain shall be the worst.

Now, my goal is set,
He will be the one to regret!
He shall break away from luxury,
I'll catch him and he'll return to misery.

Why did he free me with no conditions?
Why did he forget about laws or petitions?
I thought there was a catch or a deal. . .
Now my life is ready to repeal.

Black or white, it is he that I shall spite,
He cannot be freed without a fight.
I would rather be somewhere dying as a convict's son
Than say that I forfeit and he has won.

Solace of night, no - one sees this sight,
Cold river, now, help the stars produce light.
Prevent me from commiting a crime,
Give me the strength and give me the time.

Now, my heart of stone is gone. . .
But I will never heed Valjean.
The river mocks and says I am stubborn,
And it mocks me saying I am gypsy - born.

"Every man is born impure. . ."
I doubt this statement - is it sure?
The river starts to churn,
I feel Lucifer's burn.

Solace of night, you have left,
But even now, I won't be guilty of theft.
I am confused,
And all are amused.

This mortal has never swayed throughout his time,
But too late, I've committed a crime,
Solace of night, you have been sent,
But too late, I've stolen the bread of the government!
