The Café

12:47

Claire's POV

Claire sat with Layne at the "LBR" table in the café, but she didn't care. It's not like Massie would even notice; she was too busy flirting with Chris trying to make Derrington jealous. Some boy-fast that was. She side glanced at Cam. He was talking to Duh-livia. She felt her stomach drop and turned her attention back to Layne who was talking about something her brother had done. She resisted the urge to yawn in Layne's face. "I'm going to the bathroom," Claire said and got up from her seat. She looked at herself in the bathroom mirror. She had changed so much. It wasn't something that could be seen from the outside, she had the same long blonde hair and sky blue eyes she had her entire life, but on the inside she was a whole new person. She had managed to hold herself together over the past several months, but just barley. To soothe her anger she came up with a list of things she hated about Cam and the way he made her feel; she hated the way when she passed Cam in the hall he glared at her, hated how he acted like she was the devil or something. She hated how every time she saw a gummy worm, or worse a cinnamon heart, she felt that familiar pinch behind her eyes, and how she couldn't go into a music store anymore for fear of passing a Strokes CD. She hated how he held hands with Duh-livia in the lunch line and always kissed her right in front of Claire. But most of all she hated how she loved him. Ok, so the list was pretty long but could you really blame her? Claire reached for a towel, dampened and blotted it on her face. She felt so alone, she just wanted to be with someone who wouldn't judge her. She headed down the stairs. Slowly she pushed open the door to the nurses office. "Claire! Are you okay? What hurts?" Nurse A. asked her, concerned. "My heart." Claire whispered.

Cam's POV

Cam let out a sigh as he listened to Olivia Ryan try and tell a joke. The first time she had gotten halfway through it and decided she had forgotten a part and insisted on starting over. That was four tries ago. He let his eyes wander and found them hovering on a certain blonde haired blue eyed beauty. It seemed she got prettier every time he looked at her. She looked very unhappy, like she always did these days. Oh how he missed the sound of her laugh! Before he left for camp the summer before Derrick had told him not to call her. And if he knew Claire she would be calling him within a week's time. Well a week came and went and the next thing he knew he was packing to come home for the new semester. At school when he made eye contact (which was rare) he would glare at her, trying to mask his pain. She hadn't made an effort to talk to him since Sky's party, seven months ago. He watched Claire get up and exit the café. He jumped up and headed out the door after her. Hey, just because he apparently didn't like her anymore didn't mean he couldn't spy on her. She turned into the bathroom, and he waited until she came out again. He watched her go down the stairs to the first floor of the building. I'm too late, he thought.
