It was a perfectly normal day in Godric's Hollow. Severus and Lily Snape were sitting at the table eating breakfast. It was their son, Harry's, eleventh birthday.
There were sixteen presents in the living room, all for Harry. "Who's this one from?" asked Severus. "Oh, James dropped it off yesterday," Lily replied. Severus had disliked James Potter ever since they had gone to Hogwarts School of
Witchcraft and Wizardry together, and now he was their neighbor. "That Potter fool? That retarded oaf gave our son a present?" "Severus, I know how he treated you at Hogwarts was wrong, but he has changed for the better. Please
try to get along. We don't need another accident like last year's Christmas
explosion," said Lily. Severus didn't get a chance to respond because at that moment, Harry came running down the stairs. "Happy Birthday!" his parents shouted joyfully. Harry gave them his crooked smile as he pushed back his messy black
hair. There was a knock on the door. When Lily opened it, a short woman with gray hair walked in. "How's my birthday boy?" Shouted the old woman cheerfully. "Hello, mother," Severus mumbled. Eileen Prince Snape ignored
her son and went right on talking. "Oh Harry, you're getting so big! Have you received your Hogwarts letter yet?" "Oh yes, it-" Lily was interrupted by Eileen. "Good. Anyway, I have to make this quick, as Iam very busy withwork
at the Ministry, but I have a gift for dear Harry!" Eileen pulled an owl cage out of her expanded purse. Inside was a male owl with brown feathers, and on his left wing was a single black feather, giving him a dangerous appearance. "Oh,
he's amazing!" said Harry joyfully. "I'll name him Howard!" "Yes, that's lovely dear. I have to go now," and with that, Eileen Snape left the house. While they talked Severus had walked out of the room. Harry and Lily
didn't notice he had left until he walked in the room with a blanket. "Look what I found," he said, showing them the blanket. Lily was shocked to see Harry's baby blanket in her husband's hands. "Wherever did you find that?
I thought I had lost it!" Lily exclaimed. Severus smiled. "It was in the closet upstairs. I'd been keeping it safe." Lily was amazed. She had told him she wanted to keep it for later the day they put it away in the closet.
"Severus, after all this time?" She asked. "Always," he replied happily.
