Something I wrote while bored out of my wits in a Cultural Studies Lecture. Completely no point to this little story but I said I would publish it anyways :D Neji is out of character a good deal here. You have been warned. I don't own Naruto.

"I.. I... Will you... uh.. I..," he stammers again and feels his calm exterior crumble away with each passing second. Deep breath, try again.

"Will you.. uh.. I would like.. ah.."

They are standing just south of their usual training grounds and have finished collecting Tenten's wide assortment of weapons from tree trunks. Lee and Gai have already left and Neji thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to ask her.

Tenten stands before him, twirling a tanto in her hand as she waits for him to finish his sentence. She has a faint idea what this is about but she can't deny herself the satisfaction of hearing him say it aloud. She puts on her best bewildered expression and continues to wait. Although if he keeps up this pace, she thinks, he won't be finished until he's old and grey.

"There's a party of sorts and I would like... uh.. I would appreciate it if... um.. you could.." and then he stops again, sighing deeply as his eyes drift shut. Breathe Neji. Tenten is your friend. There is nothing unusual about this. Just.. speak.

"Doyouwannacometotheparty?It'sokifyoudon'thonestlyIdon'tmindatall."

Tenten looks utterly confused and he realises belatedly that he has rushed the entire thing.

"Sorry Neji, I didn't quite catch that," she says innocently.

Unable to bear the torture, he focuses the entirety of his energy into asking her. "..I..uh.. "

It isn't going too well.

Tenten feels sorry for him, she really does. For all the genius he possesses, he can't bring himself to ask her out. How cute!

"Neji, would you like to come to the party with me?" she asks sweetly, placing the tanto back into her bag.

"YES!" he all but screams and then coughs, embarrassed. "I mean yes, I would like that very much."
