They slipped from the roadside into shadow-darkened undergrowth, fanning out, scanning the trees ahead for movement.
The trip-wire caught him unawares, a tug, a snap. Desperately he lunged forward; the triggered bolt slicing the air, tearing deep into his shoulder.
A strangled cry escaped him as he impacted the ground, gun flying from numbed fingers, hand clawing at the slim shaft, toxins coursing through him.
He felt his brother turning him, lifting his trembling frame as fighting for breath waves of dizziness and nausea assailed him.
Cruel laughter pierced the night air, as trap sprung, the night hunters moved in.
