He hated today. Which was ridiculous. He should be over it by now. But he wasn't, and it was never more obvious than today.
He remembered, clearly, the last time he'd spent this day with his Dad. John had been preoccupied with a hunt, as usual, and had totally forgotten. The new machete engraved with an old Chinese luck spell had been grunted at and then thrown into the weapons locker in the back of his truck.
Today, he missed the grunt as much as any thank you.
He sighed and raised his shot glass. "Happy Father's Day, Dad."
