Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, as it is the property of the very very talented JKR
Author's Note: It was never said what Susan Bones' father is called, so I've just made a name up.
Takes place summer 1981 - before Voldemort's downfall on Halloween 1981.
It Won't Be Me
Amelia Bones' death sparked much gossip from the people who knew her - and the people who didn't.
They cited her as one of the greatest witches of her time, as a heroine, as extremely brave - as a strong woman who put up a fight.
Had Amelia been around to hear this, she would tell those who commented on her, that she had always put up a fight for what she believed in.
One time in particular stood out.
Amelia was sitting with her brother - Edmund - in Edmund's home, whilst Edmund's wife played with their 1 year old daughter, Susan, in the next room.
Edmund ran a hand through his dark hair and shook his head at his sister in despair,' Won't you even think about it, Amelia? '
She shook her head firmly,' I most certainly will not. This is my career, and I'll be damned if I'll let Voldemort and his followers dicact what I do. '
Edmund winced,' Do you have to say the name? '
She rolled her eyes.
He continued,' I just don't think it's safe for you. '
' I'm still here aren't I? '
' But for how much longer? ' he countered,' this is a full blown war. You never know who'll be next.'
' t won't be me,' she insisted, I'll be different. '
' I'll bet that's what Edgar thought too,' her elder brother ocuntered, his eyes glassing over.
That hit a raw nerve. Their brother, Edgar Bones, had been killed two weeks earlier by death eaters, whilst doing work against the death eaters for some organisation that the rest of them knew very little about.
' C'mon,' Edmund said with a sigh,' They're killing everyone else - how long before they start getting rid of high ranking ministry officals to make way for their own death eaters? At least take some time out of work, or something?'
' For how long? ' she asked quietly, meeting his eyes. ' We don't know how long this will last. This war could go on infinitley. '
' Millie. . . ' he said, using her childhood nickname.
She stood up,' Edmund. It's my job, and I won't let anyone push me out of it. What happened to Edgar was horrible, I know, but it won't happen to me. The death eaters wouldn't dare go after . . . '
He cut her off,' For Merlin's Sake, Amelia. You know the deth eaters don't care who they kill. If they want you out of the way, then you're gone. '
She shook her head,' I won't argue this anymore Edmund. It's my job, my life, and I'm going to be fine.'
And for that time, she was right.
Until it came to the 2nd wizarding war.
During the fight upon the event of her death, Amelia couldn't help but think of her words to her brother all of those years ago.
And how untrue they turned out to be. Because it turned out, it was her.
