A/N: Hello there! It's been a while I haven't written any fanfiction, but now I'm back at it.

This is my first My Hero Academia fanfiction. It was originally written in Portuguese (and had over 7k words) since it is my native language, but now I'm translating the entire story to English. It was also a one-shot, but I decided to split it into three chapters due to its giant length, and they'll be weekly uploaded as I translate the story.

I did all I could to create a dramatic and touching story, so I hope you all like it! Let's get right into it.

"Izuku, I know it's almost your bedtime, but… could you take some time to… talk with your mother?"

These were the words pronounced by Inko Midoriya to her son, the young school student Izuku Midoriya, as she stood in front of his bedroom's door, a room dominated by the darkness of the night.

The hands of the hallway's clock were getting closer and closer to 11:00p.m., and at this rate, Inko's son used to be sleeping due to his school's morning period. The boy's awareness to the classes he frequented were one of the many reasons to why he always managed to obtain great grades, and that awareness would be replaced with exhaustion and sleepiness if he did not sleep early and well enough. This exact thing started happening when he changed his daily routine from the best to the worst.

Since he revealed to his mother that he acquired his quirk after years of wait (although he did not demonstrated it yet), Izuku spent the entire day after school training for U.A's exam. Being considered as the best highschool for heroics, U.A. was the ideal academy for people who pursued the superhero career, such as Izuku Midoriya. Due to the short deadline until the exam's initiation, the green haired boy had to train enough to be totally ready for the test that would define his future. He could not wait to tread his path to become a hero, just like his various idols. Nonetheless, this 'training' routine established by Izuku himself was worrying his mother.

"Alright, I'm going to open the door mom!" Izuku's voice could be heard from inside the bedroom. It was loud, but nevertheless, drowsy. The side-effects of his afternoon training were already present.

Inko heard the sound of the switch being flipped before Izuku opened the door with a carefree small smile on his face, creating a contrast between him and his mother, who looked sorrowful, despite forcing a fake smile on her face to not worry her son. The woman entered the room, illuminated by the roof's white light bulb, and glanced around the room. Nothing had changed: her son still had toys, posters, books and many other items about nothing more than superheroes, with a predominance of a specific hero: All-Might, Midoriya's biggest childhood idol. Many things changed as time passed, but Izuku's love for superheroes never faded away.

Inko sat in the disheveled bed as Izuku grabbed and dragged his chair to somewhere near the bed, and sat on it.

"What do you need to talk about, mom?" Midoriya asked, still sticking with an innocent curiosity in his eyes and a cheerful smile.

Inko, for some seconds, felt her heart getting hurt. Seeing that lively and delighted look on her son's face, even if he was tired, let the poor mother fearful due to what she was going to do. She would never halt her son from achieving his longtime dreams, especially when they were always distant from reality, until now. Izuku always wanted to be a superhero, and follow the steps of his idol, so when he finally developed a quirk, his mother couldn't imagine how happy he was at that moment. Inko cared a lot about her son's wishes and wanted to see him become a superhero more than anyone, but she cared more about his wellbeing. That's what drove to finally say what had to be said.

"Izuku… I know you must be really happy for having a quirk after so many years of wait. To be fair, this is so abnormal that I still cannot believe that this indeed happened." Inko said, trying to prepare her son for what she would say soon enough. "I hated seeing other kids making fun of you for not having a quirk. You always came back irritated, and sometimes, crying. It was painful to me. Being a person without a 'special ability' nowadays is really agonizing… but it was even worse for me, as your mother. I always wanted to somehow help you with that, Izuku, but there was no way to do it. I couldn't help you. And that made me feel useless. So… it must be clear that I was the happiest person in the world when I received the news about your quirk's birth, and I really, really hope you pass the U.A. exam, and become not only a superhero, but the number one superhero. But…"

Out of the sudden, Inko paused, and no word was heard from her ever since. Izuku Midoriya was left in a state of confusion and got worried, as he did not know what was going on.

"But…?" The boy asked.

"Izuku… don't you think that you're exaggerating in your training for U.A's exam?" Inko finally expressed the thoughts she had on her mind for a long time.

"W-what?!" The young boy exclaimed.

No turning back now, Inko… The mother thought.

"I-I don't want to ruin your dream, Izuku… a-actually, don't think like that! I-I'm just worried about you…" Inko said, as she tried to contain her hesitant state.

"W-worried? B-but why? I-I'm fine, mom!" Izuku replied, with an intense fear that his mom could end up limiting his trainings.

"I-Izuku… since you changed your routine to fit in your mysterious trainings that you don't even talk about that much, strange things have been happening! Y-You started getting home later than before, sometimes feeling hurt, and always too tired! You spend extra hours at home doing homework you forgot to do, and you aren't sleeping well enough!" The worried mom carefully chose her words, trying to show how she cared about her son's well being. "Your highschool even called me to talk about how you're very exhausted during classes… these trainings affected you too much. D-don't you think that you should stop with them for a while? Maybe for some days, maybe for a few weeks… I just want you to rest."

"M-mom…" The teenager was left with no words to strike back.

"It's for your own good, Izuku…"

"I-I understand mom, but… I-I can't." The boy avoided eye contact with his mother while he spoke, as he started to get nervous.

"Of course you can, Izuku!" The woman gained more confidence as the debate continued. "I-I'm not saying that you should never do your trainings anymore, not even close to that! I just don't want you to forget about your wellbeing, your studies… and I don't want you to lose your confidence in me."

Once again, the green haired boy was left with no words. Not for the sake of his unprepared behavior for the situation he found himself at, but due to the fact that he understood his mother's worries. He could not disagree with everything she was saying: the truth. Izuku's trainings were important, but they were taking up too much of his time and negative side effects originated from them. As they were pretty intense, Midoriya's exercises could cause his collapse at any second. The physical effort put into his tasks were abundant. The boy was afraid that his mother would restrict him from his trainings if she ever found out what he was doing, and so, he never told her about them. Despite that, there was one more reason for Izuku to not talk about his trainings: she couldn't know who was training him.

"M-mom…" The boy desperately searched for the right words to express his thoughts about his mother's view of the situation. "I-I understand what you mean, a-and I agree with everything you're saying… b-but I can't stop my training. Not now. I-If I want to pass the exam…"

"Izuku, it's just for a limited time! I swear…" The mother interrupted her son.

"I can't…"

"Why not?"

"I-if I stop now, I won't be able to pass the U.A's exam!"

"But why do you need to train so much, Izuku?! Haven't you already developed your own quirk?"

"I-I, uhm… I-I need to get the hang of it!" Izuku was getting more and more concerned. His mother slowly started to feel that there was something wrong.

"When will you show me your quirk anyway, Izuku? You talk so much about it, but you never demonstrated it!"

"O-one day I'll show it, but first I-I have to…"

These were the last words that Inko Midoriya heard before the world had stopped, at least in her own vision. As she came to a conclusion related to the discussion she was having with her son, she did not know how to react. Should Inko get angry? Sad? She had no idea. The only thing she knew was that her son was lying to her. What he said about his training, his quirk, everything was a lie. A lie that Inko would not let pass through this time.

"Izuku… stop." The mom interrupted her son once again. Afterwards, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, as she was afraid of the consequences that her question would bring. Nonetheless, she opened her eyes, and started speaking.

"What are you hiding from me?"

The woman was displeased and hurt at the same time, two emotions that originated from her lack of faith on her son's affirmations.

"M-mom, I-I'm not…"

"Please, stop lying, Izuku!" The boy was interrupted by his mother once again. "You talk about such nonsense things, like developing your quirk after years it was supposed to appear, and you never demonstrate it. You say you're training every day for U.A's exam, and doesn't say anything about it. Actually… you never comment about anything with your mom! W-what's happening with you?!

"N-nothing is happening with me, mom! I-I'm not lying to you, I swear…"

"So stop hiding things from me, and explain everything! Where do you keep going after your morning classes' end? What are these trainings you keep doing?!" Inko held herself, as she did not want to show how she was deeply hurt due to her son's 'lies', although it was clearly noticeable.

"Mom, t-there's nothing to hide!"

Izuku was begging for his mom to believe him, but it wasn't working. As he was failing to convince her, his heart began to accelerate, sweat rolled down his forehead, and the boy could not calm down.

"Well, it's not what it looks like, Izuku! Please, tell me what's going on… w-whatever is happening, I-I just want to…" The woman brought to the spotlight the same speech used earlier, but before she could finish it, she was interrupted.

"P-please, listen to me!" The green haired boy tried his best to not yell at his mother as he said that. He took a deep breath, tried to contain his fearfulness, and started speaking. "I-I know everything may seem weird now, but I swear that everything's fine, mom. There's nothing wrong with me, and I'm not lying to you."

"…" Inko thought about what her son said for a while, before responding. "How am I supposed to know you're telling the truth?"

Midoriya, still sitting on his chair, held his mother's hands with both of his hands, while he stared at her eyes, with confidence.

"You just have to trust me." Izuku said, as his lips formed a smile, one that the boy hoped that would make her mother a little less nervous, along with the honesty that could be noticed in his words.

However, the teenager's honesty has made things worse.

Inko could not hide her true feelings anymore. It was hurting her heart, like if it was going to explode at any moment. Her vision slowly got blurrier, as she felt tears roll down from her eyes to her cheeks, falling on her son's hands. At that moment, her heart wasn't hurting anymore: it was broken in half by her own son.

"How… can I do that… if you don't trust me?" Inko said with a trembling voice, as her eyes overflowed in more tears.

On impulse, Inko hugged her son, not caring about how she expressed her dissatisfaction with him seconds ago, leaving the boy confused. His understanding of the situation was not important, however. His mother's crying was the only thing needed to make Izuku feel his heart break apart, just like his mother felt. It was at that moment that he realized he had caused all of that. It was his fault that his mother was suffering. And he could have stopped it he told the truth.

Izuku kept his mouth shut, afraid of making things worse. The best thing he could do at that moment was to wait for his mother to calm down, and after half-a-minute, she did. After breaking up the hug, she let out all the words that were kept inside her now-broken heart.

"I-I'm your mother, Izuku… you can always trust me." Inko spoke. "There's no one in this world that cares about you more than me. Please… don't forget that."

"I never forgot about that, mom… even if looks like I did." Izuku responded, without the courage to look directly at his mother eyes.

Inko wiped her face, getting rid of all the tears that she let out. Some seconds after that were enough for her to get back to speaking.

"Izuku… I love you, and you know that. I-I'm just worried about what you're doing. I don't know what's happening… but I just want to help you, give you the support you need, stop you from doing the wrong decisions… anything that would serve as assistance to you. I just want you to trust me more. Don't say that I shouldn't be worried, or something similar… I'll be worried about you, and that will never change. Even when you become a superhero… I won't stop caring about you. The weight of having lots of people or even the entire world to save must put many heroes under pressure… and I worry about that happening to you. Actually… this is one of my many worries, but this is what came to my mind first. Izuku… I'm sorry for causing this discussion… I-I'm going to leave you alone now, good night." These were the last words of Inko Midoriya, as she quickly kissed her son's forehead, and left his bedroom, ashamed of herself.

The lights had been turned off as Izuku's mother flipped the switch before leaving the room. Now, the teenager was left alone in the darkness, with nothing but thoughts inside his head. The boy took a deep breath, trying to lighten up himself after facing one of the tensest situations of his life as of now. But he couldn't. He had never seen his mother so angry before, and so depressed as well. Nonetheless, the worst thing that originated from that discussion that was still bothering Izuku was how it all happened due to his 'distrust' in her mother. It wasn't like he did not trust Inko. After all, she is the person he most trusts. He simply had things he couldn't tell her now. Things that would receive a proper explanation in the future.

Another thing that was halting him from getting calm was the last words of her mother before she left the bedroom. While she expressed how she worried about her son, she managed to, somehow, talk about a doubt that Izuku was asking himself for days, related to his future as a superhero. It was a question that had been fixated in his head, and did not leave, no matter what the green haired boy tried to do. He desperately needed answers about his doubt, but he didn't know who he should ask for that. Maybe he could help him… but Izuku wasn't sure if he should ask that for him.

With so many things creating a commotion in his mind, Izuku got up from his chair and laid down on his bed, facing his bedroom's roof. Today, he knew that he wouldn't manage to sleep early and well enough. Not because of how he was tired due to his trainings. But due to how his mother was disappointed with him. And it was his fault.

To be continued…

A/N: Whelp, first chapter is complete. I did all I could to make the translation faithful to the original story, and I'd say it worked out.

I hope you liked the first chapter! Don't forget to leave your thoughts about it in the reviews section, as I'd love to know what's on your mind after reading the first part of the story.
