Summary: In between their last fight and Sebastian's funeral, Kathryn allows herself to release her anger and grief for a few moments.
DISCLAIMER: I don't own any of this stuff...if I did I wouldn't be writing fics about it, I'd be making movies.
Behind Closed Doors
"NO!" Kathryn shrieked, hurling a wine glass at the wall of her bedroom.
She was alone in the apartment, and held her phone limply after her violent outburst.
"Kathryn, I am so sorry." Ronald's voice came softly through the receiver Kathryn held. Shaking her head, she slammed the receiver down and felt hot tears start to fall down her face. Picking up the wine bottle, she began to skull the alcohol, trying to numb the pain already searing in her chest.
It wasn't over...he might have picked Annette, but he would be back, he always came back...Kathryn had always played hard to get since they met, it was what had always assured her victory over the women he toyed with...Annette would have been no different...
Jumping off the bed, Kathryn ran blindly to the Kitchen, and started grabbing at glasses and throwing them to the floor. Hearing them smash soothed her for a split second.
"Sebastian."
She muttered his name softly, knowing that as many times as she said it, he would never hear it again.
"Sebastian." She said louder, frustrated.
"Sebastian!" she screamed, throwing the glasses harder and faster and feeling the shards hit her bare feet.
Slowly, Kathryn sank to the ground, sitting on the broken glass and feeling the blood ooze out of her feet as the shards of glass came loose. Pulling the sharp pieces out of her feet, Kathryn felt the blood on her hands. Wiping the hair out of her face, she knew she looked crazy, psychotic. It was about time her true colours showed.
Kathryn had been miserable most of her life, until Sebastian entered it. He kept her entertained, if nothing else, and despite her careless attitude toward her, every move she made in regard to him was delicately planned and executed. Of all her conquests, he was the most important, the most valuable. When finally he had fallen for somebody else, she knew she had to sever herself from him, if only for a time.
Now he was gone. Her prize. Her conquest. Her brother.
Wiping the tears from her face, Kathryn headed to the bathroom. Washing her face and hair in the basin, she dried off quickly and applied make up to hide that she had been crying. Tenderly, she used tweezers to pull out the glass and washed and bandaged her feet. Dressing in what she considered her most appealing costume, she called her maid.
"There's been an accident." Kathryn said as steadily as she could.
"Could you come right away, it really does need to be cleaned up as soon as possible."
But the real accident, the lapse in her cold charade, had already been cleaned up, and Kathryn thought herself safe to present again. Her grief had reared its ugly head for only a few minutes, but it was all she would allow.
As she walked out the door of her apartment, Kathryn said one final goodbye to Sebastian, before letting her heart go cold where he had once been.
