Roll Call
Hello All! This is my Christmas Piece, that came to me while i was looking at about 100 pieces of purple string and trying to figure out which was which. Merry Christmas, Yuletide, Mithra and anything else my readers celebrate. Feel free to also read my other story going up today, Horizontal Daydream. Enjoy!
After the Saviour broke the curse, it was important for the fairies to find out if they were all present.
Before, they could just line up from red all the way to purple, just like a rainbow, taking care to order themselves by the slight variation in their colour. Any glaring gaps, such as the one that has existed ever since Green had lost her wings, would immediately alert them to anyone missing, especially because they usually spent so much time apart that they never really remember all of each others faces.
Now, however, dressed in the garments of nuns, all drab and black, meant that Mother Superior had to resort to more, lets just say, imaginative means.
Means that involved her going to Red Strings and finding their most comprehensive colour chart.
Which was now in her hands, along with a pen, as she used it to tick fairies off.
The first couple of rounds were easy.
"Red?" "Here!"
"Yellow?" "Present."
"Purple?" "Ya?"
And so it went. The more powerful, older fairies (except Gold and Green) were all accounted for. Time to start of the lieutenants.
"Magenta?" Check
"Lilac?" Check.
"Funchia?" Check.
It got a bit silly from there on. Names like Buttercup Yellow and Ice Blue were thrown into the air, but most of the fairies were able to respond to this quite well. Nova, short for Nova Pink, stood next to a dear friend, Hot Pink, who commented, wisely: "This is going to get out of hand any minute now, just you watch."
It did.
"Light Mauve?" "Present."
"Very light mauve?"
Pause
"Very light mauve?"
Silence. Blue glared and pointed at a nun.
"Very light mauve, I am talking to you."
The pointed at nun looked confused.
"I thought I was pale violet?"
Blue sighed and held the bridge of your nose. "No, no you are not. You are very light mauve. Pale violet is 36 shades away and further down my list. Now that I know you are here, let us continue. Very dark pansy purple?"
Nova could simply not resist a giggle escape her. Today was going to be a lot of fun.
The final total was all but one fairy (burned up by Regina) accounted for, a tired and exhausted Mother Superior who refused to attend the knitting and haberdashery workshop that they ran for the elderly of the town ever again, and exactly 27 unhappy fairies clambering at how they absolutely hated their Enchanted Forest names.
