Disclaimer: I still don't own 'The Bill'. Don't think I'm not working on it though… *smashes window at iTV headquarters and climbs in* OK, now where's these papers?

That Fear

(go on, guess the pairing, lol)
Rated: K

He spoke, she listened
He theorised, she contradicted
He assumed, she understood
He spoke, she listened…

But that day. That day that still hung over her head, threatening to spring back into her mind any and every hour of the days after.

That fear. How useless. Inability.

That overwhelming fear.

That day had changed everything.

That evening before, so normal: he'd spoken, she'd contradicted. He'd assumed, she'd understood. She'd spoken, he hadn't listened.

He never listened.

She'd gone off on her own and not come back.

He'd closed up, shut out, tried to be distant. She reached out, broke that wall, and challenged him.

His assumptions. His beliefs. His view on people, places, everything… her.

He'd judged. Uneducated, unfounded and cruel judgements.

He never listened.

That day she'd gone off on her own to prove him wrong.

That day had changed everything.

That fear. How useless. Inability.

She was lost and he had no clue where to look.

That fear.

That overwhelming fear.

She was gone. He'd missed his chance.

That night. That day was gone, behind her, and she stood in the station wanting nothing more than to sleep. Dream about other things. Pretend it never happened. Forget.

Forget the betrayal.

That fear.

That overwhelming fear.

She'd survived. She would continue. She would move on. She would forget.

And she wasn't just talking about the kidnapping…

*

He wanted to talk about it. He wanted to listen.

It was ironic.

So ironic.

She wanted nothing of it. She wanted to go. Wanted to turn her back on the whole thing. Forget.

He just wanted to help.

But he let her go.

*

The most ironic thing of the whole ordeal?

He was watching her walk away.

He was watching her turn her back on him.

That day she had moved on from him.

It was the same day he fell for her…
