Dedication
Amanda was driving home from work one day and as she was on the beltway heading for Arlington, she was in the midst of the usual rush hour traffic and having nothing else to do turned on her radio and the deejay from the station was saying that there was a long-distance dedication letter that he wanted to read.
The couple whose dedication this was for had the initials of L and A! Naturally, Amanda perked up! That could be Lee and herself! She then shook her head saying, "C'mon, Amanda! There's probably a million L and A's out there in the world. Don't be ridiculous! "
But she was intrigued now and couldn't change the station. Meanwhile, Lee was just leaving the Agency parking lot and also had his radio on. He was going to change the station until he heard the L and A part.
He also found it interesting seeing as how he and Amanda had just recently changed their relationship since their first real kiss in the "Q" Bureau. They agreed to take things slow due to her family and the Agency. They still had a lot to talk about and didn't want things to go wrong since they also work together.
As they listened in their separate cars, the deejay said, "As you all are trying to get home, I would like to read something that came in our mailbag today. This isn't normally what we do here for this station, but today is different. This letter writer wants to remain anonymous but insists that they know the couple very well. Here it is, folks:
" L and A have the kind of relationship that stands the test of time. The great ones already do. Bogart and Becall, Gable and Lombard, and of course Rainer and Kelly. Don't get me wrong. When they argue, picture in your minds the great duo of Tracy and Hepburn! Anyway, when last I saw them, they weren't together. But I already feel as though they will be soon. So I'd like to dedicate this song to them with all my best wishes for a wonderful future as they indeed deserve every happiness. From my heart to theirs, please play Dionne Warwick's classic tune, "I'll Never Love This Way Again. " Thank you. "
As the song played and the traffic once again moved, Lee and Amanda were struck with a myriad of emotions as they went to their separate homes. Amanda pulled into her driveway as the song ended and tears fell as she murmured, "Wow. I wonder who it was? "
Lee pulled into his apartment parking space and shut off the engine and cleared his throat and sighed saying, "Whew. Great. Wonder who that could have been? "
As they entered their homes, Lee and Amanda each silently vowed that if they ever found out who the writer was that they would have to thank them personally. It was as if the writer already knew they were together, but how?! It was just too much of a coincidence to be brushed off. They went on with their routines with the thought in the back of their minds and both silently thanked whoever and whatever forces that had brought them together at last.
The End
