Shadows of a Wolf

Chapter One: Memories Return

The wind snaking through my cloak is the only thing that seems to be alive on this desolate plain of despair and misery. The throngs of orcs can only be a few miles from where I stand on this lifeless rocky ground. The trees are poisoned and strangled from the vile gas and stink of the evil in this place. A stone no bigger than a pebble rolls across the bare, rocky ground. As I turn towards the noise I see two figures dresses in orc garb. Though much smaller than orcs I will not take a chance. I pull an arrow from my quiver and string my bow. As I edge closer I can hear the creatures talking.
"Mr. Frodo, how do you suppose Mr. Merry and Mr. Pippin are faring on their journeys?" Said a parched voice.
"Much better than we are Sam, let's hope," replied the one called Frodo. The two people stumble slowly forward holding each other up. Suddenly memories flood back to me. The quest, the strange halflings, Aragorn, Isildur's heir, all have reentered my mind and my heart knows hope once more.
