Matt knew all along what being recruited by Mello meant, high chance of sacrifice and low chance of video game money, he honestly didn't know which was worse. But as he faced the Japanese police all on his own, he knew the sacrifice had to be the worst part.

Taking a job from Mello was a ticket straight to hell, especially if it required moving from LA to Japan in a matter of days, all to chase down one or two people who could kill in a matter of seconds. Why did Matt agree to this? The suspense was eating away at whatever sanity he had managed to withhold while being around Mello, who drove him to the edge of suicide multiple times. But even with all the suspense Mello caused with his constant PMS during their voyages, Matt couldn't help but feel attracted to him.

He recognized this foreign feeling for Mello almost immediately. All the dating sims he had played as a child, all the crazy fan girls who had the courage to come up to him at the orphanage and confess their 'undying love' for him, he had learned something. He had tried to fight it, but he knew it would be no use. Mello just seemed so.. Enticing at times. Never look into the eyes of the devil, he told himself. Mello was the worst possible candidate for a relationship. And Matt was still confused as to why he found himself drawn to him. He did everything Mello wanted without hesitance or second thought, he was just that attached to him. Like a marionette, Mello was the puppeteer.
