It was a mistake… a big mistake to call him. She can hear it in his tone. Husky from sleep. But she doesn't regret waking him…. That wasn't the mistake.
The mistake is that she called him just to hear his voice. To calm her nerves that are taking over. To feel the connection they share again. She feels weak and alone; maybe that's why she called.
She can hear him sigh and rub his eyes. A smile plays on her lips just picturing it. He questions her, wanting to know why she called. She just asks him to stay on the line with her for a while. All her nightmares weren't true; he was alive and well. When they saw each other she wanted to reach out and embrace him but she didn't.
'I'm with my girl right now.' He tells her.
Shell shocked at what he just stated. He was with someone else! Is that why he never went looking for her? No wonder he seemed distant.. angry. Maybe he's making it up to upset her. It can't be true!
If he was with the woman was she listening to them? Does he trust her that much? Will they make fun of her as soon as she hangs up? No! it's not True… she won't believe it. Not until she sees them! It's all a lie!
Maybe the drinks are getting to her. Allowing her to think she heard such a horrible thing. She's dreaming all of this! She never makes stupid mistakes like this… drunk calling an ex; that just isn't her. If she is indeed awake and he's in the right state of mind. Why did he pick the phone up? Why humor her drunken heart? If he didn't pick up she would've gone to bed.
Forgetting all about this. She wouldn't have to dread the stares or comments he and his toy will give her. Why did he have to answer and tell her that he's with his girl? One point in time she was his girl and now she's not.
That's not something a girl wants to hear after finding out her late boyfriend is alive and well after so many years of mourning his death. He was playing king to vampires in the city her family helped create. How could he never go after them! Go search for her.
Did he just love her and forget her like a used toy? Was she that easy to forget? To ease her from his life? She never forget about him. Every partner she was with she visualized it was him. Even than they never lasted because it was him! Maybe she's lost her mind after all these years. Maybe if he yells at her calls her names? It'll make it better. Anything is better than hearing that he's with his girl.
Hopefully she won't remember any of this. She prays he doesn't confront her about this when they see one another. Rebekah can hear him calling out to her… sobering she hangs up and stares off into space.
'I'm with my girl right now.' The dreadful words ring in her ears. Anger and sadness snag at her heart.
