Hi guys! So I saw a picture on Pinterest recently and it inspired this story (poem?).

It is a "The Giving Tree' AU about Castiel and Dean.

I tried to keep it as close to the Shel Silverstein poem as I could while also sort of making it my own!

Please let me know what you think!

Enjoy! :3

And The Angel Was Happy by Sherlocked-Dawn

Once there was an angel.

A rebellious angel named Castiel, with big blue eyes and messy black hair.

And he loved a man.

A man with freckles and eyes as green as a forest.

His name was Dean.

And he was the Righteous Man.

And everyday, Dean would pray to Castiel

And ask for help

And fight the bad guys away.

He'd kill the demons

And save peoples lives

And eat pie

And drive the Impala

And play tricks on his brother

And when he was tired

He would find the cheapest motel room.

And the man loved the angel…

Very much

And the angel was happy.

But time went by.

And the man got sadder

And the angel was often alone.

Then one day the Righteous Man came to the angel.

"Castiel," he said, "I know you are busy fighting a heavenly battle, but things are pretty grim down here. We've found something that can't be stopped."

"I'm sorry," said the angel,

"But I can't leave now, Heaven needs me.

But I do have this blade.

Take this blade, Dean, and kill that monster and then you will be happy."

And so the man took the blade

And thanked the angel.

And the angel was happy.

But the man stayed away for a long time…

And the angel was sad.

And then one day the Righteous man came back

And the angel smiled with joy.

"Sam and I need help performing a difficult ritual," he said.

"Can you help us find the ingredients and prepare the alter?"

"I cannot help," said the angel,

"I am under trial for rebelling against Heaven,

But you can have my blood to help finish it.

Then you will be happy."

And so the man cut open the angels wrist

And took his blood.

And the angel was happy.

But the Righteous Man stayed away for a long time.

And when he came back

The angel was so happy

He could hardly speak.

"My brother is ill," the man said.

"His mind is broken from Hell and he is hallucinating.

He will not eat and cannot sleep

And he is going to die.

Can you cure him?"

"I cannot heal him from his insanity," said the angel.

"But you can use my mind to hold Sam's illness and save your brother,

And you will be happy."

And so the man destroyed the angels mind

And saved his little brother.

And the angel was happy…

But not really.

And after a long time

The Righteous Man came back again.

"I am sorry, Dean," said the angel,

"But I have nothing left to give you-

I don't have any weapons."

"I've kept the blade you gave me all those years ago," said the man.

"I'm not as strong as I once was," said the angel,

I cannot help you fight."

"I'm done fighting for now," said the man.

"My mind is gone," said the angel,

"I cannot save your brother."

"Sammy is fine," said the man.

"I am sorry," sighed the angel,

"I wish I could give you something…

But I have nothing left.

I am just a damaged angel.

I am sorry."

"I don't need very much now," said the man.

"Just someone to love and spend the rest of my life with.

I am very lonely."

"Well," said the angel, straightening out his trench coat as much as he could,

"I do have enough love to last a lifetime.

Let me love you as I have all these years."

And the man took his outstretched hand, smiling

And the angel was happy.
