Dagor Dagorath: The End (Prologue)
Author: lotrmithrandir

Summary: A long time ago, the Valar Mandos predicted The Battle of Battles, or in Elvish Dagor Dagorath. Morgoth has returned and is going to destroy the whole of Arda... starting with Valinor. Now, Gandalf the White must unite Vala, Maia, Elf, Man and Dwarf to fight the greatest evil the World has ever seen.

Notes: This is especially for non-Silmarillion or LOTR readers. You should probably read the character list on my profile before you read this story. It gives you a sense of the World and of the vast wealth of characters in JRR Tolkien's Middle-Earth Legendarium. I'll try to bring them all back.

Disclaimer: The characters of The Lord of the Rings and of The Silmarillion are not my property and they belong to JRR Tolkien's imense imagination.

Please Read & Review!

Prologue

The White Wizard walked through the hallways of Valinor holding a staff in his hand.

Everywhere he walked, beautiful pointy-eared beings stared at him. Some bowed, some saluted. "Mithrandir!" But the salutations were always very shallow. Never going farther than what the situation would allow.

For an elven stronghold, the streets were very quiet. Olórin had lived here all his life and he had never seen them so quiet. "They feel what I feel," Olórin thought.

But there was no time to deliberate on the silence of the Elves. He had arrived.

The two Maia spirits guarding the huge gates opened them without ceremony.

And then Olórin saw them.

They were fourteen.

Six to the right, six to the left and two in front. The Valar, the Valier, and their King and Queen. Manwë and Varda. The King of the Valar and the Queen of the Stars.

Olórin stepped forward without hesitation and without being announced. Of the Maiar, he was the only one who was granted this priviledge. No one greeted him and he didn't greet back.

Manwë knew who he was and what he wanted but he did not address him.

Everyone just sat there, silent.

Mandos, the Judge of the Dead and the Master of Doom, was the first to speak.

'I predicted this.'

'Yes, you did,' Olórin said. 'And yet, we were still caught off guard.'

Ulmo, the Lord of Waters, then said:

'Is there anything we can do?'

'No.'

And that's when Manwë first lifted his head up and spoke.

'What do they call it?'

Mithrandir turned around.

'Dagor Dagorath. The Battle of Battles,' Olórin and Mithrandir answered.

And then… Gandalf, the White added:

'They also call it The End.'

Next Chapter: The first battle of the Dagor Dagorath ensues and the Elves suffer some terrible losses. Which is just to say that I am not afraid of killing off characters. Even important ones, for the sake of a good story.
