A/N: 4th fanfic, hooray! This one takes place right after Harry and Ginny kiss in the sixth book. As always, the amazing J.K.Rowling owns all.
As they walked out of the common room, Harry suddenly felt awkward. He knew he was rubbish with girls. He didn't know what to say to Ginny. What do you say to a girl after you kiss her in the middle of a crowd of people, who are all staring at you? Well, he didn't know.
Ginny seemed to be perfectly comfortable, though, as she grabbed his hand, and led him to the grounds. They walked in silence, until they came up to a tree by the pond. She sat down, and Harry followed suit, leaning against the tree. She leaned against him, still not talking.
Harry wondered what she was thinking, as she stared out at the lake, but as the silence lengthened, he grew more comfortable, leaning in to kiss her head.
She smiled radiantly up at him, and he wondered if there was anything more beautiful in the world. "I never thought this would actually happen, you know," she whispered happily.
"What would happen," he asked, though he thought he knew the answer.
"I never thought you would actually like me. I never gave up on you, but my hope was lessening. You never seemed to notice me," she said, a bit sadly, as she remembered.
"Well, you thought wrong. I definitely noticed you," he laughed.
"I'm glad," she laughed back.
He wrapped his arms securely around her. It was so easy to talk to her, to be with her. It felt right. Is this what love is like? He thought to himself.
"You know, it's different," she said thoughtfully.
"What is," Harry asked, pulling himself out of his thoughts.
"Being with you," she answered. "When I was with Dean or Michael I used to pretend it was you I was kissing."
Harry grinned.
"Now, I can just be myself, you know? There's no one else I like at the same time. Nothing holding me back."
They sat in silence for a while longer.
"It's different for me, too," Harry mused.
"How's that?" Ginny asked curiously.
"Well," Harry thought, "with Cho…I liked her. You know, it wasn't as if I didn't like her. I just…I didn't…feel like I do now…I don't know, really… I'm rubbish at feelings, you know that." Ginny giggled a bit "I just…I think I might…love you."
This caught Ginny's attention. She gasped. "R-really?"
"I don't really know," Harry said seriously. "I've never told someone I love them before. I honestly don't know what it's like. I just feel like…I would do anything for you. I'd die for you…and, I just want to be with you…and, whenever I see you, I feel all happy and stuff. That never happened with Cho."
At the end of this slightly suffocated speech, Ginny's eyes were filled with tears. She grabbed his head, and kissed him slowly, savoring the reality of her long wished-for dream: Harry Potter loved her. Harry Potter loved her.
As they broke apart, Ginny whispered, "I love you, too, Harry."
