Riley was her best friend. She was upset, so naturally Maya was going to help her, even if it was hurting herself in th process. Riley was upset that she was never going to live up to her parents perfection. They learned that Riley was a perfect mix of both of her parents.
Maya wasn't niave. She knew her parents were far from perfect. If you were a mix of both your parents, then what chance did she have? Her dad left them for his other family and her mom was a failed actress who worked as a waitress. She knew that wasn't fair to her mom, her mom really did try, but it was the truth. What chance did Maya have?
Riley, on the other hand, Riley's parents were nearly perfect. Well, Topanga was. Corey was a goofball just like Riley, but he was pretty great too. Maya knew Riley would turn out just fine, with parents like that. But what chance did Maya have she have?
