Tilting her head to the left; Seymour Birkhoff was still talking but was now just seen more from the left angle. What had brought the smile to Alex's lips was the fact that during the five minutes she had been titling her head from left to right and then back, the genius had yet to realise that she had barely been listening.

Not that she had no idea what was being said; she knew every ranting word from his dumb asses to lone wolf talk. And she hadn't even drawn the short straw in listening to him, she had come to find some type of friendship with the egotist smart ass. Often sitting watching him work or running a few errands for him while Nikita was out in the field.

It had taken a hell of a lot to get there but for what ever reason the pair had found it, and though Nikita often frowned and Michael just sat amused, the pair were comfortable.

Or at least as comfortable as they allowed themselves to think they were. The truth was, after nearly two months of being a free lance agent and offering her assistance once more to Nikita, Alex had started to see the genius in a new light. Where she was held back by both Nikita's warnings and Divisions, she now saw that Birkhoff for all his snide remarks and walls; was funny.

And sweet; caring and capable of more than just what Division had wanted for him. It had started when he offered her a small smile for getting him a drink, sure he had a busted hand but in that small smile Alex had felt something more human from him then she had ever felt before. His laughter had caught her off guard and nearly chocked her, though glancing to Nikita and Michael, she guessed it wasn't something new for Birkhoff to do.

Tilting to the right, Alex wondered just when Birkhoff had stopped being the go to guy to help with problems and became a friend.

It might have been when feeling like the third wheel to Michael and Nikita, Alex had turned to the only person in the group. Or might have been when during those long nights when his hand was busted and he needed a second hand she had opted to stay up to help. During those nights they had laughed, cursed and relaxed and Alex saw the man that wasn't barking orders at her all those months ago.

"Birkhoff do this; Birkhoff fix this; Birkhoff fetch this; Birkhoff"

"Shut up" the shock on Birkhoff's face was quickly replaced by a scowl; but for once Alex didn't give the genius a chance to rant again nor let her mind start to race with all the reasons why she was about to probably make a big mistake.

The moment she was on her feet Birkhoff took a deep breath ready to berate her and the moment her hands gripped his collar and dragged his lips to her, she felt him freeze.

This was their moment to decide and Alex fingers curled more firmly around his collar, she knew that telling him to shut up was the best thing she could have ever done; however after several seconds of Birkhoff just frozen, she figured maybe she should have let him ramble on.

She couldn't stop her self from licking her lips the moment they pulled apart and she choose to ignore the flare in his eyes when he saw this motion. Regarding each other for a few silent moments; Alex choose to hope.

For the first time her hope wasn't fuelled by revenge or hate; it was fuelled with the hope that maybe, just maybe in this story she could get her happy ending.

"I sleep on the left side of the bed" with a half strangled laugh Alex knew that telling Birkhoff to shut was the best thing that happened in her life.

And when he kissed her this time she knew that she would tell him to shut up a lot more instead of just listening to him.

The end.
