The waves
Rensemee Sparrow sat on the beach by the shoreline. As the tide rolled in and the waves crashed to the shore, she thought of all the things that happened in the last few days. "Betrothed" she had thought. It didn't sound so bad. But now she had met the man she was to marry. Christopher was the type who only liked proper girls. Rensemee wanted freedom. If she married him, she'd have to stop doing a lot of the things she loved, like sword fighting and sailing. Rensemee wished that Aunt Elizabeth hadn't betrothed her to Christopher. She couldn't really blame her though. Aunt Elizabeth just wanted a good life for her. That was why Rensemee had so many lessons. Secretly, Rensemee didn't care if she knew how to sing or dance. She wanted to be free like Elizabeth in the stories she told her. As the sea gently lapped the sand, she remembered a song.
Under a bright blue, endless sky,
Waves try to measure, the days that we treasure,
Wave hello and wave good-bye
It was a song that her mother, Angelica, used to sing to her every night and then her father would tuck her in. Her parents, how she longed for them. She was only three years old when she was separated from them. It had been thirteen years since she'd seen her parents. She had been taken, but somehow, delivered to her aunt's doorstep. It was years later when her aunt told her that they were dead. Since it had been so long, Rensemee barley remembered her parents but things like this never left her. Sometimes she'd have a flashback from when she was little. It would often be of the day she was kidnapped but sometimes it would be her and her parents, enjoying a moment together. Her aunt told her great tales of her father and mother. She told her how brave and witty her father was, and how smart and clever her mother was. Rensemee thought for a while. She didn't know where she came from or who she really was. She really wished her mother were here right now. She remembered that her mother always made her feel better. Right now she felt so alone. She sat by the ocean a little bit longer until she heard Elizabeth's voice telling her to come inside for dinner.
