Learning to Swim

"Master Splinter……are you sure about this?" Leonardo asked as he edged closer to the pool of water.

"Yes, my son." The wise rat looked down at his four sons…three sons. 'Where is Michelangelo?' He thought as he looked around for his youngest son. Splinter couldn't find him.

"Sensei, that water looks really deep…and cold." Raphael took a step away from the edge of the water.

"Did you know that if we went into water that was too cold, our muscles would freeze up on us and we would die?" Donatello looked from Master Splinter to Raph and then to Leo. "You're the oldest, you go first."

"I'm not going first. I say that Mikey should go first…wait, where is Mikey?" Leo asked as he also looked around for his littlest brother.

"HERE!!!" Michelangelo yelled as he did a cannon ball from a ledge high over the water. When he hit, everyone by the pool was soaked. Mikey floundered in the water for a moment before he figured out how to keep his head above the water. "Why are still standing there bros? The water's fine!"

"And cold…" Raph took another step back from the river water.

'If Mikey can figure it out…so can I.' Leo thought as he stepped into the water. He walked out to where he couldn't reach the bottom and began to panic. "Sensei!" Leo called out, he was really scared.

"It is alright my son. You are doing very well. Look at Michelangelo. Do you see how he is moving his feet?" Splinter stepped forward and knelt by the edge of the pool.

"Yes…." Leo mumbled, it wasn't every day that he had to watch Mikey to learn how to do something. Usually, it was Mikey watching him. Leo slowly began to get the feel of it and before long he was swimming around with Mikey. "Raph, Donny, this is really fun. Come on!!"

"Now that I think about it, it doesn't look THAT hard." Donny leapt into the water before he could change his mind and sooner then Leo or Mikey, Donny was swimming around with his brothers.

"Raphael, why don't you go join your brothers? It really isn't that difficult." Splinter turned to face the turtle in the red mask.

"But Donny said that our muscles would freeze up and we could die."

"Don't listen to him, just look, your brothers are fine."

"Leo said it was really deep."

"But didn't Mikey say that the water is fine?"

"Yeah…but I still don't wanna go in there." Raph took yet another step back but he ran into a dripping-wet turtle. He turned to face Mikey who picked him up into fireman's carry.

"You're gonna go in even if you don't want to bro!" Mikey ran to the edge of the pool with Raph pounding on his shell.

"Let me down! Mikey, you're gonna pay for this! I'm gonna—" Raph was cut off by a wave of cold river water. Mikey had jumped in with him. Raph came up sputtering…but he came up. He started to panic and went back under. Leo dove under the water and grabbed Raph's shell and pulled him to the edge of the water. Raph coughed up a ton of water then turned the turtle in orange. "Mikey, you are SO dead when I catch you!" Mikey just jumped into the water and Raph followed. He didn't even realize that he was floating in the deepest part of the pool. He swam after Mikey who was just laughing as he swam circles around all his brothers. Master Splinter just sat down with his paws in the water. He just chuckled as Raph vowed to get Mikey back if it was the last thing he did.
