I'm The Villain After All
--
I saw a world
Where peace breaks with the dawn.
A place of joy and cheers.
Above the earth I flew;
A devil in the skies.
And then I knew it was a dream
I'm the villain after all.
--
I saw a world
Where fire lines the walls.
A place of fear and screams.
Below the earth I lived;
An angel in the flames.
And then I knew it was too real
I'm the villain after all.
--
I saw a world
Where shadows follow light.
A place of hope and tears.
On the earth I stood;
A person in a crowd.
And then I knew it was the truth
I'm the villain after all.
A/N: The way I see it, Heaven and Hell are simply too black and white. As everybody keeps saying, the world isn't like that: it's shades of gray (contrary to what this show's wardrobe department may think.) The same goes for a villain. The best ones always have a hint of goodness buried deep down. Now you're wondering how this relates to Syler. When we were first introduced to him, he seemed like an all-out villain obsessed with power. Then we see that episode near the end of season 1 that hints that Syler becomes who he is because his mother wouldn't let him be anything else. He also only claims to kill those who, in his mind, don't deserve their gifts. He sometimes even goes out of his way to avoid killing innocent civilians. Does this sound like an all-out villain to you? Considering many other main cast members don't hesitate to blow someone's head off at any given opportunity, I think this is saying something. It seems to me that this is a shade of gray.
