sirius has been set free and since Voldemort's has gone hires harry, the weasley boys and Ginny to help him refurbish Grimmauld place.
Sirius Black was a free and happy man. he had been cleared of all charges since the arrest of Peter "wormtail" Pettigrew. Voldemort had been defeated by his godson harry potter and he was the ministry's newest Auror.
it was the summer holidays and since he had full custody of Harry he wanted to make his childhood home an actual livable home. although he would hire people to refurbish the main rooms of Grimmauld place he wanted to do the bedrooms himself. and by himself, he meant getting all his godsons friends and girlfriend to do it for him.
this is what led to what Sirius was standing in front of know. he was in the basement kitchen of number 12. harry, with Ginny in his lap, Ron, Bill, Fred and George, and even Percy, who had come back to the family after the war ended, were all sitting around the table whilst Sirius stood at the head.
"ok Weasleys, Mr. Potter and future Mrs. Potter" he winked at Harry and Ginny, causing them to blush whilst her brothers groaned. "I have gathered you all here today to make this house a home". they all looked confused at him.
"all of you have volunteered willingly" he lied. only bill had volunteered to help whilst he was forcing Harry and Mrs. Weasley was forcing the rest of her children to help. "to help me, Sirius black order of Merlin first class," Sirius said in a mock impression of Lockhart. "refurbish this dump" they all, spare bill and surprisingly ginny, groaned at this comment. "ok first off were doing the bedrooms" he assigned one of the six-bedroom to each off the boys before turning to Ginny.
"And Ginny, you're helping me pick out colors because well I trust you". the redhead grinned smugly.
after the weasley boys went to their respective rooms, Sirius took Harry and Ginny to his old bedroom.
"ok harry this is going to be your room" he stated. harry looked around and smiled.
"great," Harry said, he then looked up and his eyes widened in shock. "what are those?" he asked, pointing up at the ceiling. ginny was giggling in the background.
"those, my dear boys are muggle pinups and a motorbike poster," Sirius told him with a grin. "this used to be my room".
"I guessed that" Harry muttered before adding "but where are you sleeping?".
"where ever the girls are at" Sirius joked. "Nah, im taking the master bedroom".
"ok," Harry said, glancing around the room. "I want to get rid of the pinups-"
"I'll make you some new ones, babe" Ginny cheekily interrupted him, doing a pose. harry grinned at her.
"yeah, no pinups then," Sirius said before the two started flirting. he always felt uncomfortable when he saw and/or heard they're flirting. "what color do you want the walls?".
"im not sure"
"how about red?" Ginny suggested. "it's your favorite color after all"
"ok, red than" Harry agreed. "but dark red".
"well that's sorted, get to work," Sirius told him, Harry groaned. "and no magic!" he shouted as he and Ginny left the room. they climbed the stairs until they reached the master bedroom. the room was dark green and was twice the size of the other bedrooms. it also had its own bathroom. almost all the furniture had had serpents on them but Sirius had already gotten ridden of all the Slytherin symbolism in his house.
"ok, I want Gryffindor bright red for my room" Sirius said firmly. ginny scribbled it down on the notebook Sirius had given her. they toured the house and settled on the colors on each room.
it took a month for the new and improved Grimmauld place to be ready. Sirius had gotten rid of all dark artifacts and snake memorabilia, he had given it all to the ministry. the house looked more modern then the Victorian era look it had before.
the entrance hall was painted a very neutral dark grey, as was all the hallways. the picture of his mother had been taken away and destroyed, much to Sirius delight. his new study was painted a light brown and had a hand made mahogany desk. it also had several bookshelves and a black leather sofa. he had placed an orange 70s rug that really tied the room together.
the formal dining room had been replaced by a home gym which was full of muggle excise equipment and brooms mounted to the walls, which were black.
the basement kitchen looked very different. it had the steel grey colored walls. Sirius had refurbished all the counters with more modern ones and the same went with the appliances. he had kept the oak table because he liked it. he had cleaned out and reorganized the pantry. he had given the floor a makeover as well, having sandstone slabs replace the ugly brick floor.
the first-floor bedroom had been emptied and painted crème. it was a blank slate which Sirius had only put a bed, table and empty wardrobe. he intended to use this room as a guest bedroom.
Sirius had basically destroyed the black family tapestry room. he had spent an afternoon blasting off all his least favorite relatives and when that was finished had painted over the family tree with black color. he had created a new family tree with the Weasleys, potters, lupins and good Blacks were included on. he had even linked Harry and Ginny names as if they were married as a joke.
the second-floor bedroom was exactly like the first floor one and was intended to be a guest room as well. he had replaced the parlor and made it a sitting room. he had painted the walls a dark green and had placed three black leather sofas in there. an oak coffee table was at the center atop the dark wood floor. he had placed the odd muggle artwork he liked on the walls.
harry had moved into his room on the third floor halfway through the process of refurbishing and had really made it his own. the walls, as per his request, were a maroon red color. he had a double bed with the same color bed sheets and covers. a large wardrobe full of his new clothes, which Ginny had helped him pick out. a desk in the corner.
the walls had a poster of the Holyhead harpies, a framed photograph of the Quibbler article he interviewed for in his fifth year, a picture of him and his friends, a group photo of dumbledores army and on a shelf his order of Merlin, first class and various models he had received over the years. he also had a small bookcase for his school books and novels. he had also paid his friend Dean Thomas to draw a roaring lion on one wall. on his bedside cabinet, he had a reading light and a framed picture of Ginny.
as per his wishes, Sirius had only cleaned out regulus bedroom but had not redecorated it. after learning of what his brother had done to stop Voldemort it hurt too much to do anything to the bedroom.
Sirius' bedroom on the fourth floor was an entirely different matter. it was a bright, almost blinding red color. he had a large super king sized bed with almost silver colored bed sheets. inspired by Harry's artwork he had paid Dean extra to draw a stag, black dog and a wolf on his walls. he had several framed pictures, one of the marauders, both incarnations of the order of the Phoenix, James, and lily holding baby Harry.
he had even found a picture of himself and his brother Regulus when they were teens. he had also taken the muggle pinups and motorcycle posters and put them on his own ceiling.
the other bedroom on the fourth floor was the same as its predecessors, crème colored and guest bedroom intended. all four bathrooms were painted baby blue and had white tiles with more up to date fixings.
the attic had had the least change. Sirius mainly used it for storage but since he was being nice to Kreacher, which he was grateful for since the house elf was much better and made much tastier food, he made a small bedroom for. it wasn't much but it was an improvement over his cupboard.
Sirius loved his new home. it was everything he wanted and more. he could imagine raising his own family here. to him, number 12 Grimmauld place had finally become the home he always wanted.
Sirius decided to throw a house warming party and invited the Weasleys, Remus, his cousin Andromeda and her husband Ted Tonks, their daughter Dora (who was Remus's girlfriend) and Hermione Granger. since Harry already lived there he would help Sirius and Kreacher prepare dinner. his years at the Dursleys had made him quite a good cook.
their guests arrived around 6 pm, he gave them a tour of the house before proceeding to the kitchen for dinner. Sirius grinned at the look of envy that appeared on Mrs. Weasley's face upon seeing the kitchen. they had a lovely meal of spaghetti and meatballs.
the kids then went to spend time together in Harry's bedroom leaving the adults to talk.
"you've really made this place a home Siri," Andi said. she had visited the old Grimmauld place as a child before marrying Ted.
"yes, it looks wonderful" Dora agreed with her mother. a few more compliments were thrown around before they all started small talk.
remus leaned in so only Sirius could hear him. "you've given Harry a proper home with this place," he told his best friend. "James would be really proud of you".
tears welled up in Sirius' eyes. "he deserves it, harry I mean, he deserves a home, he deserves happiness".
