When Tony arrived from a meeting in New York to his newly rebuilt mansion in Malibu where he and Pepper lived together again now, his heart clenched as he found Pepper sitting on the middle of their bed, holding the helmet of his armor in her hands, her forehead pressed against the metal.

They'd only been back together for a week when he had asked her to marry him in front of the cameras, but he knew she still had nightmares just like him, with the incident in New York, the Extremis and with the 'Civil War' between he and Captain America. He threw his coat on the floor, approaching her, seeing her raise her eyes in surprise and he sat behind her, hugging her from behind and burying his face on her hair.

"Tony, I thought you would be back only tomorrow." Pepper said, forcing a smile, for she was accustomed not to show weaknesses, she didn't want to admit that she still had nightmares about the Extremis, with his missions, but Tony's arms tightened around her.

"Love, I know you're the strong one in this relationship, but we're engaged and I want you to know that you can let me carry some of your fears..." He murmured gently, staring at the engagement ring that he had put on her finger, which shone beneath his helmet.

"Especially because I know that part of them are because of me and I care about the other part because I love you and you always cared and took care of me."

Pepper gave him a small smile, her eyes glittering as she turned her face towards his, still holding the helmet, and although the bedroom was dark, the huge glass window made the starry sky illuminate the room, making it possible for her to see every detail of the face of the man and she shivered as she felt his goatee rub against her face and she admitted:

"I know Tony." She had always been independent, taking care of Tony, even before they had started dating, but she wanted him to know: "You are the most important person to me, Tony, and my biggest fear is losing you and I have nightmares where you die before we get engaged. I know that as a super hero, your life is in constant danger, I admire what you do, but I don't want to lose you."

"We are engaged and you will be the most beautiful bride that has ever walked through the altar, you'll be my beautiful wife." Tony said, hugging her harder and she smiled, staring at his brown and sincere eyes. "Pepper, I will fight with all my might so that our days won't end before we see our grandchildren, but if it happen, remember those worlds of love: I love you."

"That was the longest and most beautiful speech I've ever heard you say, Tony." Pepper said in surprise, releasing his helmet so she could stroke his hair and gave him a beautiful smile, laughing: "I love you."

And she brought him to her, kissing his lips willingly. Tony responded to the kiss, anxious after being seperated for two days from her and then he brought her to his lap, leaving her taller than he, his hands caressing her back beneath the shirt she wore, feeling her part her lips to him and putting more weight over his body, making his desire for her grow and pulling his hair at his touch.

No matter what, they were engaged, and, as Tony had said, they loved each other.
