Challenge: Outpost 2 divided destiny and Mass Effect
There are several ways this kind of crossover could go, 1. the events of outpost 2 actually happen, 2 the events of outpost 2 don't happen, the blight never was created. 1 and 2 infront of a limit or recommendation means that they are limited to those options
Limits
the council does discover new terra after the humans leave, leading to political consequences of some sort for the humans.
Humanity discovers prothean ruins on New Terra, although only enough to make a small frigate class ship. They do not have any knowledge of the mars archives though.
Either way, the events of mass effect 1 are delayed due to no catalysis for Saren to vent his rage on, this could be done either by moving the timeline forward or simply not having Saren as the main villian, keep in mind that humanity has no FTL capabilities until they discover or are given mass effect technology. Meaning hundreds if not thousands of years may pass for them between worlds.
Humanity is limited in its population, well most of the races in the galaxy number in the billions, humans only left earth with 400 people, and a gene bank. They will be recovering their population for generations possibly milennia. Since humanity has such a limited population do they even have infantry or is every person to precious to risk? Do they keep true to remote teleoperation or do they install smaller lower quality Savants into their vehicles to prevent hacking?
Humanity isn't picky about worlds, due to most of their population having grown up inside a self contained enviroment. Planets that the council would think are terrible worlds unsuitable for life humanity will colonize. Does this upset people? Up to you.
Humanity has exotic technologies due to not being lead down the ezzo tech line at first. Lasers, Mazers, sticky foam, EMP weapons. These are all in outpost 2, along with a wide variety of other technologies that the council has no idea what to do with. One technology you should consider when thinking of how the council will react to humans is Savant series computers. Their effectively cyborg super computers afterall, does this violate the council's mandate on AI's? Do humans try to hide this technology from the council? Etc?
If you follow the O2 storyline, you'll know that only one colony escapes. Is it Plymouth or is it eden? Each have vasty different outlooks and each would be seen quite differently by the rest of the galaxy.
If you ignore the blight by not following the O2 storyline, does humanity abandon new terra when they finally get FTL and find worlds like Demeter, Eden Prime, etc, which don't require terraforming? If you do stick to O2's storyline, but go with plymouth would they even risk colonizing those worlds for fear of damaging the ecosystems?
Recommendations
the New Terrans find a green world for their next planet after abandoning new terra do to the blight,
First contact with the Salarians instead of the Turians or batarians?
Have fun writing it but also keep in mind the problems that certain paths might lead to? Politics, technology, and cultural clashes all have reprecussions afterall.
The reapers may have culled the protheans later then in cannon leading to more time till the reapers arrive?
