Aftermath Ch.
**I do not own rights to Avatar: The Last Airbender.
It's been a week since Aang defeated fire lord Ozai. A week since Aang received the kiss that changed his view on everything.
Ever since the kiss, Aang has been getting closer to Katara (as if they weren't close enough already) and he's even noticed a change in behavior from the waterbender as well.
Right now, the "Gaang" (deemed by Sokka) were sitting around a large campfire- thanks to Zuko –laughing and recalling upon the stories of their long journey. The heat from the fire the summer air emitted a warmth that surrounded the 6-some (8 if you include Momo and Appa), but that's not the reason Aang's face was a deep crimson and his body felt as if it WAS on fire.
Aang sat on the ground with Katara's head resting on his lap, her chocolate curls sprawled out instead of tied in the usual braid or bun. Aang's left hand caressed the locks while his right petted Momo, who was sleeping on the ground beside him. Sokka and Toph argue about something dumb (Aang wasn't listening) while Suki giggles and is amused by their bickering. Zuko stands up and heads toward the direction of the city, muttering something about Mai.
Aang stares down at Katara, her facing the fire, her eyes half lidded. He takes in everything, to her crystal blue eyes to her slightly parted lips. He smiles softly. He's never seen anyone so gorgeous, nevertheless has he expected someone so beautiful to be so close to him. His admiration was interrupted by the blue-eyed beauty's voice.
"What'cha thinkin 'bout?"
He exits his trance and once again is blushing a deep red as he tries to find an excuse. "Um.. M-Momos fur is a little matted I think he needs a bath?"
"Momo takes baths?"
He turns his attention to Sokka, looking at him with a confused
"Well-"
"Who wants s'mores?"
Zuko, with Mai trailing behind, holds up chocolate, graham crackers, and a bag of marshmallows. Sokka's eyes instantly light up and he picks up a stick from the ground, putting Aang's airbending to shame by how fast he blew off the dirt. They all share a laugh and spend the rest of the night roasting marshmallows and for once they're at peace, the first time in a long time.
Oh how Aang wishes these moments could last forever.
