A/N: So, I was stuck on my long story, Renegade, and I had Florence + The Machine in my head, so I wrote this. It's kind of like Tim's freewriting he does to clear his head when he's got Block. Anyhoo, let me know what you think. Please?
Disclaimer: The song, Heavy In Your Arms, belongs to the band Florence + The Machine and NCIS belongs to Bellisarius. I am not receiving payment for this story.
Tony raced down the hallway, skidding around the corner. His heart was in his throat as his feet pounded. Abby… Tim…
I was a heavy heart to carry
My beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced to crown
How were they to know that the killer would come back. How were they to know that he would masquerade as the security guard.
I was a heavy heart to carry
My feet dragged across the ground
And he took me to the river
Where he slowly let me drown
How were they to know he wanted to kill again. In the same place Abby and Tim were collecting evidence.
My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall
How were they to know he had a gun.
I'm so heavy
Heavy
Heavy in your arms
I'm so heavy
Heavy
Heavy in your arms
They had made it simple for him, too. Left an agent and a forensic scientist alone at a crime scene with a pedophile and murderer.
And is it worth the wait
All this killing time
Are you strong enough to stand
Protecting both your heart and mine
He could be anyone. He could do anything.
Who is the betrayer
Who's the killer in the crowd
The one who creeps in corridors and doesn't make a sound
He had a gun that he knew how to use. He had the element of surprise; their dead Navy lieutenant could testify to that.
My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall
The corridor seemed longer than before. The dark hallways reached out to him as he swept by, threatening to lose him in their abyss.
This will be my last confession
I love you never felt like any blessing
Whispering like it's a secret
Only to condemn the one who hears it
With a heavy heart
His skull was pounding, and his worry choked him. He slid to a stop at the doorway, shock nearly sending him to his knees.
I was a heavy heart to carry
My beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced to crown
He cleared the room. It was empty, save for the two still figures on the floor. He checked their pulses.
I was a heavy heart to carry
But he never let me down
When he had me in his arms
My feet never touched the ground
Abby was unconscious. Tim was dead.
