Hi! I hope you guys like this! It is a poem based of the song The Gambler by Fun, one of my favorite songs. I heard it and thought of Percabeth, so I wrote a one-shot. It is narrated by Annabeth, and she is writing a poem for Percy.
The fire is warm
on our faces as we sit and talk.
You and I should live for a while
now that we're done with
demigod battles.
We're going to try to be outside
in our little terrace garden
that was started with Calypso's moonlace
when you were sixteen.
We've lived our lives
to the fullest and
fate has been on our side.
"When we first danced, remember?
We were 13 and young and we had
held up the sky," you say to me.
"You were cold, but when we twirled,
the sun came out and brightened in our eyes."
I knew nothing about romance,
no Aphrodite blood, but
I knew I was in love
from that moment and forever on.
"That day you bought me those flowers,
not one, not two, not five," I say.
"You bought me their whole stock of roses,
it didn't matter to you how much it cost."
I have never been lonely,
not ever since I met you.
I would never abandon you,
not even if Apollo stopped
coming across the sky.
You grab my hand and squeeze to say
"I'll never leave your side."
Charlie is smart like me,
he thinks before he does.
He thinks that everyone is in love,
and sees hope in what all people do.
Silena still calls almost every day,
her eyes are just like yours.
And also like you, she never pauses.
She never takes anything for granted.
She'll work hard for anything and
she still never complains.
While you were in the hospital,
I fought so hard to keep on going. I
knew that we had promised to
only let go when our time was right.
I thought of that promise,
made by a kiss near the hearth
on Olympus 30 years ago.
Though you were sick, you knew
it wasn't quite your time.
You'd never quit before, and I
wasn't about to let you quit then.
I took your hand and squeezed to say
"I'll never leave your side."
I hear the door open,
you walk in and kiss me on the cheek.
"Annabeth, honey,
The kids are coming for
dinner tonight, remember?"
"Of course," I say.
You set the table,
And I stoke the fire.
