Akaya couldn't believe the news. He was on the back seat of the taxi, his face buried in his hands. The other regulars were already at the hospital. Mayu met an accident. She had been run over by a car.
No matter how much he said it, it still didn't sink in. He was even afraid to go to the hospital. He was afraid to see her condition. For a split second, he considered telling the driver to turn around; he would just tell the regulars that…
"Mayu- chan! I can't believe I failed English, again!" Akaya said, waving his test paper in front of his girlfriend's face. "Oh, Akaya," she said, patting his head. "You can pass if you study harder. Don't worry; I'll be your tutor."
Before he could finish his excuses, that day came back to him. Mayu was always there for him, so he had to go. He just had to.
The taxi finally stopped. Akaya wasted no time, he handed him the payment and ran for the door. "Rin, Mayu," he panted as he reached the nurse at the counter. "Room two- oh- two."
Akaya ran and ended up hitting his face hard on Niou's back. "Watch where you're--- Oh, so it's you, brat." The trickster said, pulling at Akaya's ear and shoved him in Mayu's room. They were alone. He merely whispered a 'Thanks' to his senpais.
Mayu was asleep, all those things stuck to her, trying to keep her alive. Akaya made his way to her. He sat down and held her hand.
"Mm, Mayu- chan, can I talk to you?"
"Sure Akaya, what would you want to say?" Mayu said, closing her locker door. She didn't want Akaya to see that she kept a picture of him in her locker. Okay, so she does have a crush on Rikkai's Junior Ace.
Akaya merely went red, digging the end of his rubber shoes into the pavement. His eyes were downcast. "Um… I was thinking maybe, would you want to go out with me…?"
Akaya closed his eyes and sighed at the thought. That was when it all began. Then he heard a sound from Mayu. She was waking up. She gave him a weak smile, "Akaya…"
Akaya said nothing but wrapped his arms around her. "I'm sorry, Mayu. I wasn't there for you."
"It's ok, Akaya, I know you have important things to do. Besides, I don't want to suck out all the fun in your life."
Akaya's hug tightened, "I do have fun when I'm with you." Mayu giggled, "You're being all dramatic, again." Akaya laughed with her. "Yeah, I guess I am."
Silence.
Akaya could feel Mayu going limp in his arms. He knew that if he would make her wait more, it would be too late. "Mayu…?
"Hm?"
"I love you, Mayu- chan."
Mayu gave him another weak smile. Akaya could feel her getting weaker and weaker with each passing minute. "I love you, too, Aka- chan."
Akaya bent over and pressed his lips against Mayu's. Then… He heard it. The sound that told him that Mayu was… gone. She was dead.
Akaya went numb as he felt Niou and Yagyuu pulled him away. Doctors and nurses rushed in, trying to revive her.
He sat down on one of the chairs. He remembered all the days they spent together, the laughs they used to share (A/N aw, God, totally cliché), and the insults they would shout at Niou at times.
He was going to miss her sorely. But he was happy he got share time with her before she left. He closed his eyes, the tears stinging in his eyes. He was gonna have to get over her, though it would take a lot of time. As of now, the only thing he could remember her by were the words, "I love you."
I'm done! Sorry, I was watching iCarly when I wrote this. It was the episode where Miranda was going to 'move' to Yakima. LoL, I'm being all weird again. See ya!
