Neville/Ginny – one shot
NEVILLE'S POV
I'm finally going to do it. I'm going to ask Ginny to the Yule Ball. I've already been turned down by several people, and I'm really nervous. What will she say?
I turn the corner in the corridor and she's right there. Great timing…
Come on, Neville, you can do it! I tell myself. I suck up my pride, stick out my chest, take a deep breath, and spit it out.
"?"
She looks startled. "What was that, Neville?"
"I said," I sigh. "Will you go to the Yule Ball with me?"
"Oh! I'd love to Neville!" she says. Her smile is genuine and it makes me feel good inside. I may have been turned down by other girls, but Ginny wants to go with me!
"Really, you will? Because you don't have to go if you don't want to and…"
I was cut off by her giggling. "Of course I'm sure! We will have a great time!" she hugs me and runs off to her dormitory.
That huge weight was lifted off of my shoulder! I'm so happy she said yes that I can't even move for a minute, I just stand there in shock. I might actually enjoy the Yule Ball.
~~~LINE BREAK~~~
It's the day of the Yule Ball and I'm getting ready. Gran has sent me the most hideous dress robes that make me look fatter than usual! I want to impress Ginny, not scare her off. Oh god, this should be an interesting dance. My two left feet stepping on hers will definitely not make her interested in me. I check my watch, its five o'clock on the dot, time for me to meet Ginny at the steps of the Great Hall. Okay Neville, you can do this, just try to stay cool. As I walk to the Great Hall my heart is beating out of my chest. I hear Ginny call my name, I turn around, and am stunned.
As she walks down the stairs it seems like a slow motion clip from a movie. Her beautiful ginger hair is waving down to her shoulders and her pink dress is just the right length. My mouth hangs open and I probably look like an idiot but I don't care because she is the most beautiful girl I have seen in my life.
She gets to the bottom of the steps and I'm speechless. All I can manage to get out is, "Uh, hi." Ginny chuckles and she smiles at me. I reach out to grab her hand. "Shall we?" I ask.
"We shall," she says casually and grabs my hand. That's when I realize how sweaty my hand is, but she is too polite to say anything.
"You look great," I compliment her.
"You don't look so bad yourself," she replies, smiling. Now, I wasn't expecting that! She thinks I 'don't look so bad'! The music starts playing and of course it's a slow song. I've been practicing how to dance with the broom in the boys dormitory but that's nothing compared to a real person. I take a deep breath and start dancing.
It's actually easier than I thought it would be. We just flow around the dance floor like the wind is blowing us and we are effortlessly letting it guide us. I can't stop smiling and neither can she. Everything is absolutely perfect!
After a few songs, we decide to take a break and sit for a while. We drink some butterbeer and tell stories. "And then the Cornish Pixies grabbed me by the ears and flew me up to the ceiling!" I told her about my time in second year. When I told her she was in the middle of taking a sip of her butterbeer and she spit it out all over some Hufflepuff walking by. Ginny apologized but after he left, we starting cracking up uncontrollably. My stomach hurt so much but I liked the feeling. I've never had a better time in my life.
When we got back to the common room we collapsed on the couch. That night was so much fun! I was filled with energy and was about to ask Ginny if she wanted to go down by the lake, but when I looked down she was sleeping heavily in my lap. There was a smile on her sleeping face and I didn't want to disturb her rest. I lye next to her and put my head on the couch as I slowly drift off into sleep thinking about Ginny.
