How Moses Came to Be

Have you ever wondered how Moses got his name? It is such a peculiar name for a bird, or anyone for that matter.

Our story starts with a raven trying to fly through the autumn air with a broken wing. Almost as soon as she jumps out of her nest she starts falling on a diagonal towards Mr. Jones's feet. It was a thing of beauty, a raven such as this one, so large for a raven yet so delicate. This raven would soon be Moses mother. Jones picked up the frightened raven with care. This of course was before Jones became a bitter mean farmer.

In the next month Jones cared for the bird as if she were his own child. She had a special nest in the chicken coop. The nest was made of straw, twigs, and cut up newspaper. It was a much better nest than the ones the hens had to use. Her wing was mended within a month's time and she became stronger than ever, and was now a very happy bird.

Even after her wing was mended she always had a special place in Mr. Jones's heart. Sarah (this was what Jones had named her) tried to make friends with the other animals on the farm but there was no use. All the other animals on Manor farm were very jealous of Sarah and often picked on her and were mean to her.

After a year Mr. Jones realized she had laid an egg in her nest, Jones was so exited cared for her now more than you could ever imagine. Jones was always checking in on her in the day and at night, she received plenty more food than any other bird on the farm, and she slept in the living room of the farm house because Jones thought it would be too cold for her and the egg in the chicken coop. Sadly though, shortly after she gave birth she was killed and eaten by Julia the cat.

Jones was so devastated that she had been killed by Julia that he nearly killed her. This was the last straw that made him become the bitter mean farmer he is today (many things had been bothering him and Sarah's death just pushed him over the edge). After that the only thing keeping him from suicide was the one little raven she had given birth to. He tried to raise the little raven as best he could.

Jones spent long nights at the Red Lion getting drunk beyond belief but did not put a bullet in his brain because of the little raven. Though Jones tried to raise Sam (that was his first attempt at a name) he just didn't put in the same effort he had before and all the other animals suffered as well.

By the time the Sam was a young strong raven he was known as Moses instead of Sam. This was because ever since he was little he always tried to help the other animals and make them feel better about their misfortune.

When Moses was little Benjamin had told him the terrible past of his mother. Even though Moses had a sad life of his own he still tried to be positive about every aspect of his life, both good and bad. The other animals tried to blame him for Jones being all bitter but soon realize they couldn't really despise such a tame and friendly animal. So the animals decided to hate Jones instead, now he was the ultimate evil in their eyes. Moses tried as much as he could to keep them from showing their true disgust for Jones.

Moses was always different than the other animals because Jones took somewhat better care of him than the others. He always kept close to Mr. Jones. He kept up his acts of kindness his whole life always telling people they would be rewarded for hard work and trials someday.
