How Mollie Lost Her Ribbon
One day Mollie was taking a break from work just outside of her stable. She was starting to get restless playing with her beautiful shiny white mane, so she took out the blue ribbon she had stolen from Ms. Jones. Mollie threw her ribbon up in the air, which made her smile so gleefully. Just then Old Major trotted by and spotted Mollie.
"You're going to lose that ribbon if you keep that up comrade!" Old Major exclaimed.
"I don't care!" said Mollie with pride. She kept on tossing it up in the air and the next thing she knew it was up on top of the farmhouse.
"Oh no!" she cried, but Mollie was too lazy to try and get it off. Then Benjamin came to see what all the fuss was about.
"Can you get my ribbon off the roof please?" Mollie kindly asked.
"No." said Benjamin firmly. Mollie knew that was because Benjamin was as stubborn as a mule. At that moment she realized she could ask the birds to fly up and get it back for her.
"Can you please help me get my ribbon?" Mollie asked kindly again.
"Sure," one of the birds chirped. "But I'm a little bit clumsy."
"That ok." she replied. The bird flew up towards the ribbon. It clutched the ribbon in its paws and carried it towards Mollie.
"Oh than-" Mollie began to say but the bird had just dropped the ribbon into the Foxwood farm, the neighboring farm. Mollie thought her ribbon would be gone forever. None of the other birds would help her so she needed to think up a plan to get it, but she wasn't the best idea maker on the farm. So Mollie went to Snowball and asked him to think up a plan to get her ribbon back.
"Well you've got yourself into quite a situation there comrade, but I will help you." Snowball answered.
"Thank you so much!" said Mollie.
"My plan is to get Old Major to jump over the big hedge that blocks our farm from the Foxwood farm, because he had once won an award for prize show jumping. I will go tell him now. " Snowball uttered in a quite calm manor.
Snowball returned within three minutes with Old Major.
"I told you that you would lose this ribbon, did I not? Be more careful next time." Said Old Major. Mollie nodded carelessly not paying attention to what he said. Old Major accepted the nod and set of for the big fence as fast as he could. The hedge was much higher than a normal pig could jump. But Old Major was running with so much determination that it seemed impossible for him to fail. He took a big leap and he was over the hedge! Old Major had done it! On the other side of the hedge Old Major was having a bit of trouble finding the ribbon. He was looking around frantically and then aha! He had spotted it in the far corner of the field. Old Major hurried off toward it, but then he spotted another pig.
"Hello comrade!" Old Major said cheerfully.
"Don't comrade me!" the pig started angrily. "You're from the Manor Farm aren't you."
"Yes indeed" Old Major exclaimed.
"Well I don't like your owner Mr. Jones. He and all his buddies including Mr. Pilkington go out for drinks at the Red Lion all the time. When they come back Mr. Pilkington is always to drunk to remember to feed the animals our dinner. Convince him to stop and I'll let you have your ribbon back." the pig continued in an extremely sinister voice.
"But I can't! I'm just a pig!" Old Major whined.
"That's not my problem now is it." the pig began. "Just convince him to" WHAM! Old Major kicked the pig straight in the leg. The pig dropped the ribbon. He picked it up and hopped over the hedge to get back to Mollie and Snowball. When Old Major finally reached them Mollie said
"Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!" Mollie cried out.
"You're welcome. This teaches you not to go throwing ribbons onto roofs." Old Major said.
"Well I guess our work here is done comrade." Snowball stated. Mollie trotted off back to her stable. She kept playing with her ribbon, but was a lot more careful this time.
