Disclaimer: I don't own Final Fantasy IX©...
Dedication: To those who are being patient with me, I thank you! ~.^ Just a little note to the people who have me on their fav authors and AuthorAlert; Don't, please, take me off because I haven't updated my stories in a while. I'm tryin', believe me, I am, but I'm probably going to add a few more chapters to some stories (any requests???). I'm going to wait awhile until I get my $$ into Xing before continuing with my stories... I'm not quite sure yet about that...

~~Prelude~~
" What do you mean 'you're sorry'?" she asked as she turned slowly to stare across the room into his emotionless forest green eyes.
"I'm just sorry," Zidane repeated, his eyes never betraying his emotions and never leaving hers as he made a gesture with his gloved hand, waving it through the air.
Garnet suddenly furrowed her brow in confusion. " Is it..." she paused to control a shaky intake of breath as she pressed a dainty hand to her flat abdomen. "Is it this?"
Zidane's eyes glanced down at her stomach before coming up to meet hers. He slowly shook his head.
"Then what is it, Zidane?" Garnet begged. "Tell me... is it... me?"
Zidane shook his head again and then turned it to the side to stare out at the window at the shooting star that zoomed past the open window in the dark night. "Nothing..."
Garnet blinked and pursed her lips. "'Nothing' what?! I don't understand! Why must you play games, Zidane, why?" she asked as she took a step towards him.
Zidane's left hand immediately fell to the leather handle of his Ultima Weapon, his eyes flashing as they narrowed, causing Garnet to stop advancing, flinching visibly. "Don't... don't come any closer," he warned through tightly clenched teeth, his tail raised and swishing back and forth through the air in short, indignant movements. "If I must use these, then so be it..."
"Don't, Zidane," Garnet whispered softly, frightfully. "What is wrong with you? You come back from the Iifa Tree from your battle with Kuja, you're all happy, glad to see me... hold me, and here you are now, threatening me with your weapons. Whatever happened to the caring, loving, don't care about life Zidane that I use to love and know? Wherever did he go off to?"
With his jaw so tightly clenched, the vein in the side of his right cheek throbbed quickly, furiously as he stared at her. "He's no more. Gone. Never coming back," he informed her as he turned to head for the door. "Forget about him, for you're never going to see or hear from or of him ever again..."
